#MeetTheBeauties ││ AlohaLolaCards

Hello Beauties and welcome to this weeks installment of #MeetTheBeauties, Today is all about Claire from AlohaLolaCards
I first saw some of Claire's work on twitter and I fell in love completely with her designs. I haven't seen anything similar before and all the caricatures are so spot on plus really fun and cute at the same time. I have recently asked Claire to design my new blog button and I am just so excited about it. Her stuff is lovely and I know a lot of other bloggers who have used her services. Claire is really sweet as well which makes it all that better because you can have a conversation with her and she is super supportive of the community. This is one business woman I admire immensely. So without further adieu, Lets all learn a little more about Claire, AlohaLola.

1: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi! I am Claire! I am a illustrator who lives in the seaside town of Southport (next door to Liverpool!) I am a self taught graphic designer who runs the baby business Aloha Lola Cards. I am 30 this year (sob) and love cats, cakes and really bubbly bubble baths.

2: How did you come up with your business idea?

I've always loved drawing, and it was when I started creating cards for my friends that I thought, hang on, if my friends appreciate them (as much as they say they do!) then maybe others will too? Aloha Lola Cards initially started with selling caricature cards but now I have developed into digital design.

3: How long have you been doing design?

Under a year! I got Photoshop at Christmas and had no idea how to use it! I have been progressing and learning since and I hope I keep on improving! Everything has been self taught, so it's been a real learning curve!

4: Who/What Inspired you to start?

My illness inspired me to start. I got diagnosed with severe depression/anxiety. Last year was a horrendous point in my life. I was basically housebound. I've always had a job, I've always juggled jobs, and losing my career devastated me. I knew there had to be a silver lining somewhere. I started drawing and it was like my savior. So it inspired me to keep going.

5: Do you have a tip you can share for anyone looking to start their own design business?

Yes I do! Find your unique selling point. This sounds like all that boring marketing jargon but don't replicate what anyone else is doing, develop your brand based on your strengths and style and think to yourself - why would someone want to buy this? What do I offer that no one else does? After that you need to rely on your own determination. Keep promoting, keep improving, keep asking for feedback. And most of all make sure your customers are happy! They are the best marketing tool! The power of word of mouth!

6: Where do you see your work in 5 years?

I would love to see my products in a shops, it doesn't have to be anything massively corporate or commercial - just little boutiques! That would make me happy!

7: Is there anything you know now that you wish you knew when you started your business?

I wish I knew that results aren't instant. It took me a while to get recognised and have people responding. It can shatter your confidence but keep going.

8: Describe your perfect Night in.

A Chinese and a film that I know I will love (you can't go wrong with a good Disney!) With close friends and happy vibes.

9: Do you have any goals for this year, have you achieved any so far?

I would love to create my own range of pins. And just to keep growing and improving as a business - which I think I'm achieving! Or I hope I'm achieving!

10: What are your links, where can we find you?

You can find me on Twitter and Instagram @alohalolacards and you can visit: alohalolacards.com

Quick Fire Round

Hand drawing or digital drawing?
Hand drawing! I feel like I can be more expressive with my work and I like seeing creativity come to life in physical form!
Beach or Pool?
Beach! It just feels more open and liberating! Although I am scared what lurks beneath the waters... although in Southport it'll probably be a plastic bag!
Cats or Dogs?
CATS! I LOVE CATS! CATS CATS CATS. CATS.
Tea or Coffee?
Tea for me. In Coronation Street I hear a good cuppa can put anything right, even murder.
Pizza or Pasta?
Pizza definitely. I love Texas BBQ. With a stuffed crust. And meatballs.
Night in or Night out?
Both! Depending on my mood. Rainy evenings are the best for cuddling up on the couch, but I love dressing up and putting on my dancing shoes too.
Music or Movies?
Music. I couldn't live without music. It motivates me, it inspires me, it's the only thing that keeps me going when I'm exercising.
Night or Day?
I love nights. I love seeing the stars and also, that's when things get comfy and cosy-  or exciting, depending on what you're doing!
Chocolate or cake?
I like cake. I like chocolate. Which is better? There's only one way to find out... FIGHT!!!!
Netflix or Amazon Prime?
I don't have Amazon Prime, but I haven't been very impressed with Netflix of late... besides Orange Is The New Black. That show is awesome.
