Today's post is all about the Bakerdays letterbox cake.
I was very excited when I was asked to review a cake from bakersday as I can find it very difficult to find one any I like so I'm always on the search for something I will enjoy.
This is the bakerdays letter box cake which comes in a lovely little tin with holes in the top for the cake to breath but still be covered at the same time. You also get a pack of 3 balloons , plus a little card which I thought was a really nice touch. The fact that this cake is designed and packaged to fit through a letter box is amazing, my first though was it would great if I wanted to send a little something to someone that was both personalised and edible at the same time.
On their website you have so much choice to choose from. There are literally loads of designs and prints that you can choose along with getting them personalised with both text and a picture of your choosing.
When choosing the cake I designed it with my gran in mind as it's her birthday next so I chose a lovely little flower and butterfly design and added the text "Happy Birthday Granny" and added a photo of Leon to it because that's her main little guy so I know she would just fall in love with this cake. On the website you can choose from 6 different kinds: Vanilla sponge, Chocolate, fruit cake, half and half (vanilla + chocolate), gluten free and dairy free. I think it's a great selection of fillers because there's something for everyone.
The cake that I received was the Chocolate one which suits me fine as I love me some chocolate cake. Now, as I am very fussy with cakes I always tend to be a bit apprehensive when it comes to the icing. I will either love it or hate it as sometimes it can taste like cardboard. On this occasion however I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the icing! It tastes fantastic, so much so I've requested my OH buy me one for my birthday because Oh Emm Gee! It tastes great. My son also had some of this and he ate the lot! Now for a fussy little toddler Ho only eats chips and cookies most of the time, he loved this cake, so I'm sold.
As this cake was mainly for my gran she cut the cake and had the first bite, I knew that she loved it from her face. My gran is somewhat of a cake connisure to be honest, that woman knows her cakes! I asked her to tell me what she thought of the cake so here it is;
"This cake is one of the better birthday cakes I have tasted in a while. The chocolate isn't too rich nor too sickly as some of them can be. I was really surprised at how great the icing tasted as I was expecting it to be a little sugary as most are but it's quite light and you can eat a few pieces before you start to feel a little full. I would definitely buy from here when choosing birthday or celebration cakes in the future, probably to send to my family as a little reminder"
For me this cake was an all round winner from the design, taste and quality. I was really expecting the same old cake really, you know they ones you buy in the supermarket that taste stale the next day, even if they have been covered but there was still some left the next day for my OH to try but he wasn't feeling good so naturally I ate it... It wasn't stale and still tasted as good as the day before. The highlights for me on this cake were the tin with holes in the lid, the little tab that was attached to make removal from the tin easier and the balloons plus candles that came with this. I honestly enjoyed this, I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did so that's a big bonus!
The 5" letterbox cake is £14.99 and the sizes keep going up. If you check out their website you can see the full range of their products. I suggest you check them out and consider them for your next birthday cake needs.

DeleteI love the design you chose. Sometime with printed cakes they can taste awful, really fake but this sounds great that it doesn't have that weird taste
ReplyDeleteI know, I've had one before and it tasted very much like cardboard, but this one had a lovely taste to it for sure!
DeleteWe've reviewed Baker Days cakes too and really enjoyed it, although found it a bit small ;)
ReplyDeleteAww that's great!! I really enjoyed the taste tbh. I wasn't expecting it to be big or anything because they said it was a 5" Letterbox so I knew it wasn't big. But I think it's perfect for sending to someone as a minder for their birthday, although I would buy a bigger one for a birthday party
DeleteI love the design you chose! So pretty!
