A New Chapter

In our lives we have many, many chapters. It's the longest book we will ever live and it's all filled with highs and lows, the good times and the bad but no matter what, it's our journey.

The latest chapter I've been living in is entitled "What now", you know, where I haven't quite figured out what I want to do with my life for certain but panicking that I'm wasting it away all whilst juggling a child, family life and education never mind everything else in-between. I get bored very easily, that's a fact and I'm not blind to that. I start projects yet never finish them, I have great ideas but never push through, I make plans but those plans lead to something new... I like to take on a lot of things at once which probably isn't the best idea since I do get bored easily so I've been trying to figure out my place in the world as someone who likes to do, Well, everything! And although I'm still that girl who has one idea on Monday and by Wednesday I've totally revised it from start to finish like a million times, I'm about to start a new chapter in my life and this one's entitled "I'm engaged"

Yep. I said it. I'm ENGAGED!

On Friday 30th of March 2018 Stephen got down on one knee, in the middle of absolute no where at about 10pm. We drove and drove and drove till there was no sign of life on some back country road. I wasn't quite sure what was going on but to be honest, I love a good drive up the back roads so I was content. We stopped in a place that had a big open field, so many trees in the distance and the light from what ever town was behind them lighting up the sky. There were stars (even though it was raining which I'm impressed at) and it honestly felt like I was in a horror movie, it was deserted, so quiet that you probably could have heard a pin drop and it was pitch black except from that light in the distance, I couldn't even see my feet properly but this is the place that he decided to ask me to marry him and here's why....

Stephen and I met around 7 years ago although we probably met in school and just didn't remember each other. He was the year above me and I hung out with some of his friends occasionally so we are bound to have met at some point but just couldn't remember. But we met properly around 7 years ago when we were at a local pub. I hated Stephen when I first met him, he wasn't the type of person I was used to being around and I sure as hell didn't fancy him!! But we would meet with all our friends every weekend, even during the week if possible and have a right laugh. I was with someone else at the time but we just weren't right for each other and we parted ways. Stephen was a great comfort to me, he would joke all the time and really made me smile even when I didn't want to, I was warming up to him as a friend but that's all I seen him as, if you were to label us as people I was the "goth" and he was the "Ned/chav" even though that's not exactly who we were but we were opposites that's for sure. The Easter holidays rolled around though and I was getting ready to take my dog a long walk & texting Stephen at the same time about the weekend plans of going to the pub when he said he was taking his dog a walk so we decided why not take them a walk together, that was the first night of the Easter holidays. Every single day in those two weeks we saw each other, we watched horror movies at night, walked the dogs during the day & he would always walk me home.  I started seeing him in a different light which was weird to me, he was so different away from the environment of all our friends and we fast realised that we had sooooo much in common like love for the Harry potter films or being obsessed with Lord of the rings, we both played horror games and that was our favourite film genre. We talked about horror movies constantly, each watching the others favourites just to understand their love for the film. I was always terrified of IT, you know the horror movie with Tim Curry playing a nightmare inducing clown... yeah that one, but Stephen made me watch it and from that viewing onward it fast became on of my top films as it is for him, the love of horror bonded us. We had the same taste in music which was a big surprise to me and we really enjoyed animals. I learned so much about him by spending time with him then he asked me to be his girlfriend, I said yes.

So you see, Stephen chose that creepy, in the middle of the nowhere, horror movie esque road to propose to me because the thing that brought us together was horror movies and our love of them. I really can't fault his choice of location at all because it was breath taking, the views were amazing, the atmosphere was perfect and I could see me running down that road from zombies on a rain filled night.... perfect for me and him.

I know some people reading this couldn't even imagine getting engaged in such a place but to us it makes sense, it's us through and through and nowhere else in this world could even compare to that location for me now. Seeing him down on one knee brought me to tears, he got the ring I had been lusting over for so long & even got my grans blessing before doing it, he done it so well and I'm completely over the moon.

Our relationship hasn't always been plain sailing though, we've had our fair share of ups and downs, breaking up a few times and being at each others throats but when all is said and done there's no one else I would rather be sitting with at night, when the kids are grown and off with families of their own whilst we eat crispy m&ms and watch the original IT in our 60's. I want to grow old with him. I want a big family with him. I'll weather the storm with him and I'll always love him. He's my rock, my very own hero who would save me from the zombies after laughing at me falling over my own feet (yes, I would be THAT girl in the movies)

So here's to the new chapter in my life, being engaged and having a family with the love of my life.

  3. Firstly, huge congratulations on your engagement, wonderful news! Secondly, how thoughtful and romantic is Stephen? As you say, a dark place in the middle of nowhere is right out of a horror movie but as it means something to both of you, it was perfect. The ring is absolutely beautiful and how lovely that he asked your gran's permission first. Very best wishes to you both for this new chapter xx
