26 things in 26 years

Well, it's official, I'm 26 years old now and I don't feel different at all. There was a time that with each passing birthday I would feel... well... different. I would get a sense of getting older, there would be hope in my heart and I was excited for the year to come.

This year though, this year it hasn't really hit me that I'm another year older. I was sure I would feel like an old lady, not that 26 is old, not by any means but for me, I thought I would feel something, anything. I think it's because of everything that's been going on, I've not had time to process the fact I'm another year older. But what I have been thinking about is all the things I've learned in my 26 years on this planet and I wanted to share them with you today.

1: With every birthday, the years go faster.
2: Not everyone who says their your friend, is.
3: Family isn't always blood.
4: There's a lot of damn movies out there.
5: it's ok not to have your full life figured out by your 20s.
6: Everyone is just trying to make it through life, stumbling, learning and trying to create the best life they can.
7: Being kind costs nothing.
8: Sticking up for your self is allowed. You don't have to let ANYONE put you down.
9: I literally love being a blogger.
10: Wishing I was a mum for years, was worth it.
11: No matter how old you are, green baby poop will always make you boak.
12: Not everyone has your best interests at heart.
13: Money isn't the be all and end all.
14: I can overcome my anxiety.
15: My grans teachings have been invaluable.
16: I'll always fall over laughing when my gran makes a joke she finds funny and nearly pees herself from laughter.
17: Make time for your loved ones and make sure you tell them how much they mean to you.
18: Don't treat others in a way you wouldn't want to be treated.
19: People come and go, but those who are true and pure will always remain.
20: I will always be hungry at midnight.
21: Cats are my favourite but I'll always want a puppy, even if I have 20.
22: Being my most authentic self is important. I shouldn't change for everyone.
23: It's ok to say No.
24: When I'm sick, I'll always want my mum.
25: I feel 10x more confident when I have my nails done.
26: Getting older isn't as scary as I thought it would be.

And that's my 26 things in 26 years. I could go on and on, there's so much I've learned with all my life experiences. I'm so proud of myself to be where I am today, there's a time my gran thought I would be a junkie, living in the streets with the amount of partying I would do. My mum's death hit me hard, being 15 years old and reading a letter about why my mum wanted to end her life hit me like a ton of bricks, but now I'm here, a mother myself, doing AMAZING and loving life, despite all the bad luck that comes my way. I'm so happy to be here another year, I'm so happy that my life turned around and I'm in a comfortable place.

So here's to another year of life, here's to doing more, constantly pushing myself, striving to be better and doing better.

  1. Happy Birthday!! I am honestly so happy for you reaching this year; it seems like your journey and walk in life has been difficult, but the way you have pulled through is truly admirable. I can totally resonate with your very first point; life goes by quicker as the years go by. I can't wait to be a mother myself one day, and it's beautiful to see motherhood from your eyes.

  2. I seem to feel better older on the x5 and x0 ages. I didn't mind turning 26 but I hates 25! Quarter of a century... *shudder*. This is a great list. Learning it's OK to say no is something I'm still working on myself.

  3. Wow, I didn't know how hard you have had in your life! Although I know you from Twitter and now reading your post, I admire you!♥ Happy birthday! I wish you all the best! Stay just the way you are, a strong young lady and mother!😊

  4. Hope you have had a lovely birthday! I think my biggest fear right now is not knowing what the hell to do with my life! Thanks for reminding me that it's okay to not have our lives figured out in our 20s!
