Blog comments I can't stand.

So I recently done a post on "Why I HATE your Blog" and I really wasn't expecting it to be as popular as it was, So it got me to thinking about other things I don't like about the whole blog thing and what comes with it! This time around I settled on blog comments that I can't stand, you know the ones you read and wonder why the comment was even left in The first place? Sometimes I'm not even sure why I get so annoyed at certain comments, I guess there's just no need for them. This is also a guide of sorts of HOW NOT TO COMMENT ON A BLOG. Anyway, here's a list of the comments that I could be doing without reading.

Follow for Follow?

Why, WHY on earth would anyone come to a blog, decide to leave a comment and write out "great post, Come check out my post and lets follow each other" or something along those lines, you know the ones that have like two or three words, not even relevant words about your post and then a few about why you should go follow theirs and their link? I just don't understand that. I'm more inclined to check your blog out if you're actually engaging with my content and just leave your link after your comment. Don't sell me your blog in the comments of mine, I just don't see the need for it.

Comment for Comment?

Okay, so you've came to my blog, read a few lines of the post and you're leaving a comment, but you're leaving a comment for the soul purpose of asking me to come and comment on your newest post. Wait... What? Why? I just don't get it. Is it just me or is it a little cheeky if anything? Maybe it is just me, but I can't stand it.

Visit my Blog.

Another comment that gets on my wick, much like the comment for comment or follow for follow ones, is the "Visit my blog" with their blog link included and nothing else... why should I visit your blog? why should I even make the effort when you have no manners and are only on my blog to promote yours? Never going to happen. I always delete these comments and to be honest, I find them quite insulting.

Nothing related to the post at all.

Now these comments don't get to me as much as the other ones do, but it's still really annoying. So, there I am reading a comment that's been left, to find out it's actually not related to my post at all! Instead it's about a completely unrelated situation and it makes no sense to the topic I've wrote about at all, like, why? What prompted the person to leave this comment in the first place? It's confusing if anything.

One word comments.

Okay, so I don't HATE these, but I do always ask myself, why? Because well, I honestly think they haven't read the post at all and are just doing it to leave their link. I've had a few before such as "nice" or "great", just the one word in the comment and I find these to be left most often on my mental health posts or something similar. I just don't understand it personally, I couldn't go over to a blog and leave one word, it wouldn't feel right just to leave one word and then leave my links, nope, doesn't feel right.

And there you have it, blog comments that don't exactly make me "beam" with joy when I read these and it's not even just on my blog, if I'm about to leave a comment on a blog and see comments such as these ones I cringe a little! Is it just me? or do you get annoyed with things like this? Let me know!

  1. I feel ya, girl! It's definitely not the right way to go about it. The person puts time and effort into their post for the comments to be engaging - not one word comments that just mean to link to theirs. There's no connection and no real reason to leave a comment like that. I can't stand those either. I'm glad you made a post about it, maybe other's will catch a hint ;)

    1. It really isn't! I appreciate comments and seeing what people have to say so when I see one that's one word and a paragraph on why I should visit their blog... I delete!

  2. My blog doesn't get any comments, but when I read other blogs I like to go through the comments afterwards. The biggest one that annoys me is "repost this on ten posts or else" Like, do these people really believe it or is it just so people will click on their profile? I guess we'll just never understand the logic behind clickbait comments!

    2. The last thing I do when people say check out my post etc either on my blog or any social media is look. Why, they are using my space to promote themselves. Hello, genuine people are welcome, self promotors, no thanks.

  3. I read a lot of blogs and comment on loads but I don't do it for any reason. I don't expect a follow or comment back....I comment because I like what I have read and want to show some appreciation to the writer.
One word comments annoy me so much. What is the point. It's just lazy x

    1. I love to just find blogs, read and comment. I mean I always leave my link at the end so they know who commented but never say follow for follow or anything else like that!

  4. I hate comment for comment, follow me or comments that just don't make sense. It drives me up the wall!

  6. I don't understand the one word commenters, that's just weird. And the ones that are unrelated to the post...why?? But I agree that the "comment for comment" and "follow for follow" ones are the worst. I don't even put my link because I feel like it's tacky tbh

    1. It's lazy and it shows they are only there to leave links I think. I don't mind people signing the comment with their name and or link because I like to know who left the comment and I leave my link but when it's a blatant attempt at leaving their link everywhere it's so annoying!

  7. The follow for follow ones do annoy me. I've never had the comment for comment ones before. Sometimes I think a person might leave a one word comment if you don't speak the same language but like to look at the blog images.

  9. I can't stand lazy commenters or those that are only commenting for self promotion, it drives me nuts! 🙈 People who just write "love this post" are also really annoying, it's clear that they haven't actually paid any attention to what has been written! I do like it when people leave their blog links in comments as it allows me to go and check out their blog if they've left a nice comment, but when they write "follow for follow" or "read this post of mine", it's a bit frustrating! Thanks for sharing this, I'm in total agreement with you! 🙌🏼

  10. Love ALL of these! The funniest thing for me is when the frickin' promo links are LONGER than the comments, like - for real?! I think it's often a form of spam, tbh. I actually talked about this topic on twitter last night. In my recent post "21 home truths from 21" i have received the NICEST comments ever on my blog - 3/4 genuinely long, thoughtful comments. I realised that this means more than 500 IG likes or "great post!" responses ever could. I think with blogging we can get too caught up in numbers, doing things for likes and follows and it takes away from what it's REALLY about! Okay mini rant over :P THANK-YOU FOR THIS xxx

    1. I think for a blogger of any size it's a pain in the ass! I'm more inclined to go check someones blog out who takes the time to read mine and leave a comment that's not begging for a follow or comment back

  12. I agree with you on all points! When I first starting blogging I got a lot if those follow for a follow. I even being a nice person that I am (lol) followed some but they lied and never followed. One even had a nerve to come back and beg again for a follow!I don't even post those comments.

  13. Yes these are definitely all annoying, I do check out links when people post comments as I feel that they have taken the time to read my post and comment but not any of those with just stupid one word comments, follow for follow etc. There is also some people that write "Amazing post! Thanks for sharing! :)" while it's not as bad as a one word comment quite often they haven't read the post. I read one last week on someone's post about their miscarriage, how they felt after it and how they eventually moved on and some twat wrote that!! It was later deleted but sometimes these types of comments are insensitive if they haven't read the post! Rant over :D

I've not received any of these comments luckily, but it always makes me annoyed when I see them on other people's blog, hours probably went into that post and you're not acknowledging that. I most certainly won't click on a link if it seems like you were just commenting to leave it there.
Thanks for this post, have a lovely day!

  19. I completely agree with every single point you have made. People should write comments that show they have read your post. It's so easy to tell when someone has just copied and pasted a similar comment because they a) can't be bothered writing a new comment and b) just want their link out there. I really dislike when people spam their links.

  20. Haha, love this post! I absolutely hate the generic, obviously-you-didn't-read-my-post comments. "Great post! I wrote something similar over here ..."... like, can you be any more obvious that you just want to promote your blog?

I don't even mind just one sentence comments... as long as it's relative to the post I made and it was genuine!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I know people want comments, but if I just have 'great post' or 'good point', I won't comment. I find a retweet or posting it more beneficial then a comment.
And having to reply to those comments are the worst too. I'm an introvert so small talk drives me up a wall.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This was really funny and yeah-totally get ya! I think it's OK to network through blogging/commenting etc. but it's better when people show actual interest in you and it's not, well, faked.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ugh, YES, exactly!! It's really like, "why did you even click on my blog post at all??" I guess to promote your own blog. I know that's what a lot of us are doing- it's hard to get your blog seen. But I honestly click on blog posts because they interest me and I actually read a person's post and try to write an actual, in-depth comment that lets the blogger know I read their post and what I thought of it. So to have someone do the opposite on my blog aka "great post! I think you might like MY blog!" is so insulting! I'm really trying to support other bloggers and to have someone else just phone it in really frustrates me. It's the equivalent of writing a long text and someone replies with a single "k." Grrrr!

All great thoughts and points and I could not agree more!!

  24. Thank you for this! I get so frustrated with some comments. I only delete duplicates and actual spam, but you have to wonder how some people think their comments are helpful? I've had long comments that actually detracted from my post. I have found you and your blog soooo helpful!

  25. This is so true. Though ugh I admit I have been known to leave a “great post thanks for sharing” comment. I do them to show I read their content and liked it, even if I didn’t have anything brilliant to say. Hehe but maybe I have to rethink it. Don’t want it to be taken the wrong way. 😋

  26. Love!
Yesterday I saw a pig and this post reminds me of pigs come check out my blog, follow for a follow my blog is www.blahblahblahpigs/userIlovepigs.com you should visit and subscribe...

Ah that’s my lame attempt at a joke... yeah I get you I’ve had people comment on my blog and say something generic about the topic and completely miss the point like say they see the post is about technology so they assume that they should comment something like technology is wrong or just say I love it with a website link.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So, yeah, Great. Actually, I feel you on that one. I would prefer that A person Don't leave a comment on my blog at all, if they write those type of comments to me. It is so annoying. I want to say, "If you give me a minute, I might visit and like your blog, but now you have given a chance NOT to like your blog". I think that people are so impatience and desperate.

    ReplyDelete
  28. So true. Sometimes you don't know what to comment
so I comment those posts that I'm interested in rather
than something that doesn't interests me.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I totally know what you mean! I want people to read my blog because they are interesting in my post. Not because they want me to read theirs and comment back. It just feels so insincere and like you say they probably only read a few lines or scan through it. I would rather have fewer, genuine comments than loads of half-hearted/self-promoting ones. I love the link threads on Twitter, as you get to see some different blogs and posts. And if something sounds interesting I’ll give it a read and leave a comment because I want to. But I don’t want to feel pressured into reading a post because someone left a quick comment on mine. If the post doesn’t interest me, chances are I won’t have anything meaningful to say in the comments either. I’m glad you wrote this post, as it’s good to know I’m not the only one who feels like this.
