In Loving Memory of Teddy, My Beautiful Fur Baby

In loving memory of Teddy, My beautiful, beautiful Fur Baby. [Updated for 2026]
I knew one day I would be writing this post, it was inevitable, you know?
Our fur babies don’t last forever, but nothing really prepares you for it, no matter how many times you try to make peace with it.
His Time
On Saturday 5th June 2021, at 11:40am, my beautiful fur baby Teddy was sadly put to sleep.
After 19 years with him by side, I feel utterly devastated by his passing.
It’s strange not hearing him meowing in the mornings or being woken up at 3am with zoomies anymore.
I still find myself making sure I don’t put bags on the floor just incase he climbs in. Or, making sure I don’t leave the door open incase he runs out.
The massive hole I feel in my heart is aching and I don’t know when I’ll feel the healing begin.
A long time to build a bond
19 years is a long time to have a pet, another member of the family who feels like a child in a way. There’s also an added layer of feeling like my family is dwindling on top of this grief whic is awful.
I knew Teddy for 19 years, that’s 4 more than I knew my own mum, so as you can imagine, our bond was strong.
Some people may think “it’s only a cat“, but in my world he was more than that. Teddy was my confidant, the one who knew all my problems, my achievements, my heartbreak, my loss.
Teddy was there for me through my toughest times and highest highs. As cats go, he was pretty up there when it came to intuitiveness.
When I was sad, he would climb under the covers with me, scooting as close to my body as possible and cuddling in.
When I cried, he would rub his head against mine with a paw on my face as if to say, “it’s ok, it will all be ok”. Teddy just knew when I wasn’t myself and he was there, there to cuddle, there to talk to and there to love.

He was the neediest cat I’ve ever known
Teddy loved to be loved.
He always wanted to be laying with me no matter what I was doing. If I was sitting at my desk working, He was most likely on my lap or at my feet. When I would be watching something in bed, he would be there by my side.
At bed time he would be under the covers sleeping like a little spoon as I cuddled him. When morning came, he would be pawing at my face just to make sure I would get up.
When I would leave the house, he would always be by the door when I came home. Teddy was my shadow; my best bud and I’ll miss all those little traits about him.
Although I would get annoyed at him zooming around the house at 3am and knocking everything off my side tables, I’m sure as hell going to miss those annoyances.
Now that he’s gone, I can’t help but think of all the missed opportunities to pick him up and cuddle him early into the morning I missed.
*2026 update: Here I am, 5 years later and I can hand on heart say the loss of Teddy still weighs heavy on my heart.
If I could go back, I would in a heartbeat.
Teddy will forever be in my heart
Teddy was a special boy.
From the moment he entered my life he was everything to me. A long legged little fur baby who found wonder in absolutely everything.
The moment I locked eyes on him at the cat’s protection league, I knew he had to be mine. And oh boy am I honoured that he got to come home with us at 9 weeks old.
The memories I have of him will forever stay with me. I’m lucky I got to have such a long time with him and the years we spent together are cherished.
So, here’s to you my gorgeous boy, may you rest in peace and always be with me. You were and always will be, my most beautiful little Teddy bear.
Thank you for bringing so much love and joy into my life. In Loving memory of the best cat I’ve ever known.

Ah, Jordanne, this is the loveliest tribute to Teddy. I’m so sorry for your loss, he was such a special boy, a truly unique personality which shone from all the photos you shared of him over the years. I know it’s trite, but as a fellow cat mum who nursed and lost her own old boy, the mourning does get easier and time does help. Jester is planted in our garden and sometimes I go and sit with him, just to talk to him and I imagine he’s purring. Sending you and LB lots of love xxx
Thank you, Lisa. He really was a special little guy, I’ve never met a cat like him in all my years and I suspect I never will. He will always hold a special place in my heart that’s for sure and I’m eternally grateful that he chose me to be his owner because let’s face it, cats choose us! Thats so sweet that you can go and chat with Jester, it’s nice having somewhere you can go and just chat away with them. Ted has pride of place on my bed side table along with his portrait and a cat ornament. I like to think it’s where he would want to be, close to the bed and in a spot he would always sit, knocking everything off whilst he was there.
Your cat is adorable, and I’m sorry you lost him. I agree that pets are never “just a cat” and they become an important part of the family. This is a lovely post honouring his memory, thank you for sharing xx
Thank you <3 They really do become part of the family don't they?
I am so, so sorry to read this, pet. My heart breaks with you. I can’t imagine the day my fur babies cross the rainbow bridge, but I know it’ll come. I just hope they’re with me for 19 beautiful years just like Teddy.
Thank you so much. I hope you have so many happy years with your Fur babies <3
Oh gosh! I am so sorry for your loss lovely. He was always such a proud feature on your Instagram feed. He always photographed so well, bless him. Thank you for sharing this personal post! Sending much love to you all.

Thank you Lauren <3 I'm definitely going to miss snapping up shots of him for instagram, it was like a little photoshoot as he always posed.
Aaww Teddy. What a beautifully perfect puddy tat 😻🐾 I’m sorry for your loss, I understand how you feel as our family dog died when she was only 9 months old. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten over it tbh. They leave footprints on our hearts for sure ❤️💕 xo
Thank you so much Sarah. Aww I can only imagine how that must have felt, I am so so sorry for your loss. It’s hard when they pass, no matter how long you’ve had them. They come into our lives and bring so much love with them.
I’m so sorry for your loss, losing a pet is so very hard! Sending so much love to you. This is a lovely sentiment!!
Thank you <3
Teddy was beautiful! We’ve only had our cat for a year and she’s honestly like my baby – 19 years is SUCH a strong bond. Sending you love xx

Rosie
Thank you Rosie <3
Oh my gosh I am so sorry for your loss sweetheart! Sending you all the love in the world at this difficult time!
Thank you so much lovely, means a lot.
I’m so sorry for your loss! I have a cat too and I know how devasted I would be if this happened to me. Teddy sounds truly remarkable and I’m glad you had that time with him. Thanks for sharing x
Thank you. It’s a hard day when they pass for sure but having the memories and the time spent with them to hold onto is a huge help.
I am so sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful tribute to Teddy.
Thank you so much.
That’s cute haha. Need a lot of attention and love. I don’t have a pet but hopefully soon.
Yeah, when he was alive he was so needy but I didn’t mind. I miss that now that he’s passed away.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you are going through. Our cat has just been diagnosed with kidney disease so now we are having to face the idea of her leaving us a lot sooner than we were expecting. Cats really are special. I don’t think you realise until you have one as they bond with their owners so well, but are a bit skittish around others!
Teddy sounds like such a wonderful cat and it sounds like you gave him such a lovely life!
Corinne x
Thank you so much. Its hard at the moment but each day its getting a little easier, still miss his gorgeous face though. Oh lovely, I feel for you! My heart goes out as I know just how hard it is with kidney disease as Teddy had that and ultimately I think that’s what he subcame to. I really hope that you’re able to get a long term treatment or something to get as much time with your fur baby as possible.
So sorry to hear of your loss. Thank you for sharing your memories of Teddy. X
Thank you so much.
Oh Jordanne! This is such a lovely tribute to Teddy, it’s so clear what a special cat he was and it’s wonderful you made so many memories over his long life. Our pets are members of the family and it’s so difficult to loose them. I enjoyed seeing Teddy on your feed, so even though I never met him I feel like I knew him a little bit, especially sweet to see were the interactions between Teddy and LB. Animals can be so intuitive. I’m sure you’ll miss him massively and treasure all the memories.
Thank you so much Sab xyour kind words are so lovely. Pets really do make such a difference to our lives, they give us lots of love and leave an imprint on our hearts forever.
I’m so sorry to learn of the passing of your beloved, Teddy. He sounded like an amazing cat companion for all those years, I have no doubt you miss him greatly. I still miss my dog Jessie (she was with me for 16 years) and think of her often even though it’s been 20 years. Our pets bring us such joy and unconditional love (well, maybe with the conditions of food, scritches and belly rubs, haha). Thanks for sharing your memories of Teddy — I’m sending you love.
Thank you so much, he really was such an amazing little guy. Its hard when our pets leave us, no matter how many years go by we still miss them. I’m so sorry to hear about your dog Jessie, sending love your way x
Hi Jordanne,
Thanks for sharing your tribute to Teddy with us. It’s a lovely way to say goodbye to your trusty companion.
A friend once said to me that ‘You get the pet that you need.’ The cynic in me finds such things hard to believe but … it’s amazing how often it does seem to be true. Teddy certainly seemed to be exactly the cat that you needed at certain points in your life.
There will always be an element of sadness when you think of Teddy’s passing but this will be far outweighed by the love and happiness he brought into your life.
Thank you so much, Richie. It’s still hard atm because I miss him so so much but I know that he had an amazing life and I’ll see him again one day.
What a lovely tribute to your baby Teddy, Jordanne. I grew to love Teddy by seeing him on Instagram and he always put a smile on my face, even on a bad day. Pets are family, and I am dreading the moment our baby crosses the bridge.
Sending you lots of love, and Teddy loads of cuddles up there in cat heaven. x
Thank you so much. It’s hard when they go, but holding onto the memories is so so important.
This has made me cry! I’ve loved and lost several cats and they were each so special to me in their own, unique way. I’m sorry for your loss. Teddy sounds like a wonderful fur baby and friend! This is a really moving tribute to him – thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you so much for your kind words 💕
This is a beautiful post, and I’m so sorry for your loss!
Thank you so much 💖
Oh my goodness! Sweet Teddy! I loved seeing him on your feeds. You were a terrific cat mom. Nineeteen years is a great run with any pet.
Thank you. Definitely thankful for all the years we had together, it’s still raw but he will always be in my heart
What a lovely tribute to Teddy.
