2021 goals – What I want achieve this year

2021, can it be any worse than 2020? 2020 was a hell of a year, and not in a good way!

In 2020 we had so many lows it was unreal and at a point it felt like 2020 was just laughing at us. It felt like it was picking out a bingo number on what new disaster to hit us with next.

But we are going into a new year and that means new possibilities!

New opportunities and hopefully much better luck than last year brought. We aren’t out of the woods yet with the virus, but I’m keeping myself positive.

I’m holding onto the thought that things will get better this year. If I don’t, I know my mind will race to all those bad places and I’ve had enough of that to be honest.

Please let 2021 be Better, PLEASE!

So, to keep things on a lighter note and looking towards the future. I decided I would stick with my yearly goals post, this year it does look a bit different though.

Over the past 12 months I’ve grown. My priorities have shifted and my outlook on life isn’t the same as it was in January 2020. I tried the word of the year thing, I chose “Live”.

I chose Live because I felt like I hadn’t really been doing that. Sure I was surviving, but I haven’t really been living if that makes sense. But 2020 completely laughed in my face with that one.

Normally I create a “20 things I want to do this year” post. But after the year we’ve had, I am completely changing that format.

So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at my 2021 goals.

2021 goals – What I want achieve this year

In 2021, Go camping any chance we get

Last year my love of camping was re-ignited and ever since we came home from the last trip, I have been itching to get back out there, sitting by the water with a glass of wine in hand, the little one running around having fun, watching the water and just switching off to everything else.

I want more days waking up to the open views with my family and enjoying the simpler things in life.

So, this year I was to get out as much as possible with the camping gear and find new spots to explore. I think Little Bear will love it and I know S and I will as well.

Just need to wait for the better weather to come. Hopefully around the end of March, start of April we will be packing up the car, off on our travels.

Switch off more

2020 was an absolute mess of a year, so much happened they really shouldn’t have. For a lot of us, I’m sure we had some of the worst months of our lives.

That said, it did teach me a lot and for that, I’m thankful. I’ve grown in ways I never thought possible and my outlook on life has changed a hell of a lot.

2020 taught me many lessons, which you can read about here – 2020 – The worst year yet.

But the biggest lesson I learned was that although the online world is a great lifeline, especially in times like a pandemic, my life in the “real world” means more to me than any online one ever could.

Taking time to be present in the moment is a huge goal for 2021.

When the first lockdown happened, we were thrown into a state of “stillness”. We were put into a lockdown which saw us having to be home for months.

Some of us with no company but those we lived with. (I realise not everyone had any human interaction face to face. Nor was everyone’s home life a good one, but this is purely based on my own experience).

And although it was strange to constantly be around people in a small space like our homes, it gave me the chance to be with my son and gran more.

This almost never happens because life ticks over, our busy routine consumes us. We rarely get the chance to just slow down and spend time with our families like we did in lockdown.

Getting to be with my family, uninterrupted, was a luxury for me. It was priceless the time I spent with Little Bear.I also had some much needed time off social media which was freeing.

So, this year I am making a point of spending more time away from the online world. I’m going to be focusing more on nurturing my in-person life as much as I possibly can.

If possible, go a few weekends away with L

For over a year, L (Linda) and I have been talking about packing up the car with the camping gear.

We have talked about driving off for a few days, just us girls so that we can do our own thing. We want to take some photos and just switch off from the world for a bit.

Our mutual love of nature photography means that we want to get out and about in Scotland. We want to discover new places and pitch a tent under the stars.

If Covid hadn’t so rudely threw 2020 off track, we would have gone away during the summer last year. But unfortunately, we didn’t get that chance.

So, this year I would love to get out and do a few camping weekends with L, if at all possible that is.

In 2021 I want to Improve my Illustrator skills

I have been using Adobe Illustrator a lot recently, especially when making my digital products. So, I would love to continue growing my skills in 2021.

I wish we got to learn more of the creative cloud apps in college. In fact, I wish we actually got taught about them in the first place instead of being sat down, shown how to import and export then being left to our own devices.

But, you can’t change the past, so I’m trying to teach myself as much as I can about these apps. Mainly Illustrator though as it’s the one I know the least about.

Improve my Photography

I love taking photos, I’ve talked about it a lot on the blog. It’s the main reason I started college again and it’s one of those activities that give me pure joy.

So, I want to keep honing in on my skills and continue to grow with my photography. Hopefully if we do get away more this year camping, I’ll have more time to get the camera out.

I really want to overcome my fear of “selling” myself in 2021

I feel “dirty” when promoting my business or trying to sell my products. It feels like I shouldn’t be doing it.

This is because I just simply don’t feel comfortable or confident with myself.

In 2021 the plan is to tackle this issue and see if I can get past that lump in my throat every time I tweet about my shop, especially since I am now financially dependent on my business making sales.
