Growing up all I wanted to be was an adult. I wished my childhood away so that I could “do what I want”, and I’m sure I’m not alone here. 

When you’re a child you don’t realise just what being an adult means. In our little minds we see the glamour of being able to go where we want, do what we want and buy what we want. But, what we don’t realise is all those hidden costs that come with it and the responsibility. 

The realisation of being an adult 

Why would we think of those things though? We were children so we had no idea what goes into being a functioning adult and we shouldn’t have to know those worries so young. 

Now that I am a mother myself and classed as an adult, I find myself wishing I could go back to my childhood before the responsibilities of life became a reality. Back to when my biggest worry was which crayon to use or which barbie I wanted to play with. 

Priorities and responsibilities have changed however. I now find myself worrying about keeping a roof over our heads, about putting food on the table and what happens if our car or appliances break down. 

The realisation of being an adult is real, and it’s a rude awakening at times. 

Who said being an adult was easy?! Who fooled us all?!

Being an adult is hella scary. Nothing prepares us fully for what’s to come, but finding ways to make our life easier is always a big plus.
