Best Childhood Movies | 150 Favourite Childhood Films [Updated for 2026]

The other day S and I were texting about films from our childhood.

We wanted to make a list of some of our favourites for Little bear to watch as we really want him to experience those classics.

You know, the ones that shaped our childhood and were absolute belters!

I am ashamed to say, there were loads on the list that I completely forgot about which blew my mind.

It’s amazing how many came back to the forefront of my mind when we started talking about them.

Bringing back some nostalgia – Best Childhood Movies

Being in isolation meant that we were looking for some new things to do, and watch.

So, I thought I would bring some nostalgia to the table with my favourite childhood movies!

Plus, they are great recommendations if you’re in the mood for reliving your childhood.

We were talking about classics such as The Borrowers and Fern Gully, two amazing films that I would watch on repeat, having to watch the video through and then rewinding it all the way back to the start.

When I started to tell little bear about videos, he was very confused and I reminded him that when we stayed over at Katie’s house in 2017 we watched a video to which he replied, “when the tv went fuzzy and made a funny noise?”

Oh, how easy the kids of today have it with DVDs and streaming services!

Highlight of my childhood

Watching videos were the highlight of my childhood among other things, but the whole process of videos was what made the magic.

You could either watch the video as it rewound, seeing everything go backwards in 10x speed and trying to play it at just the right moment.

Or having to fast forward to your favourite part by pressing fast forward and play a million times and then rewind if you missed the moment.

Videos truly were an experience.

So my plan is to try to find a video player at some point because I still have an entire box filled with my old videos and I want little bear to experience that.

Making the list – Best Childhood Movies

These movies on the list are from my childhood/early teens which I lived out in the 90s/early 2000s as I was born in 1992.

Although there are some here from before the 90s and from the early 2000s.

Growing up I’ve always loved movies, I guess that’s why I wanted to go into the film industry.

Being a movie buff is a huge part of my life and nothing beats a good classic, for me these movies will always hold a special place in my heart.

Because of that, I really want to show little bear these movies which is why I’ve been trying to source the DVDs, find them on Netflix, Amazon prime and the likes.

Anyway, before I ramble on anymore, here are 150 of the Best Childhood Movies of All Time, the ones that stick with me and I often think about.
