Fast forward a couple of years and my mindset has definitely improved thanks to the likes of affirmations, daily gratitude and meditation.
So, today I’m sharing the benefits of practicing daily gratitude.
The Benefits of Gratitude and How to Practice It Daily
Gratitude is a powerful emotion that can have a profound impact on our well being, relationships, and overall quality of life.
It is the act of recognising and appreciating all the good things in our lives, both big and small.
When we practice gratitude regularly, we can shift our focus from what we lack to what we have.
We also begin to see the world in a more positive light by practicing gratitude.
Here are some of the benefits of gratitude and practicing it daily.
The Benefits of Practicing Gratitude
Practicing gratitude has many, many benefits for both our mental and physical health.
When we intentionally focus on the things in our lives that we are thankful for, we can experience a boost in our mood and overall sense of well being.
Reducing Stress and Anxiety
One of the big benefits of gratitude daily is that it can help to reduce stress and anxiety.
By focusing on the positive things in our lives, we can shift our attention away from the negative things that may be causing us stress.
This can help us to feel more relaxed and at ease.
When we train our brains to look for the positives instead of the negatives, we begin to see the good more often.

Gratitude and relationships
Gratitude can also improve our relationships with others.
When we express gratitude towards others, it can strengthen our bonds and increase feelings of closeness and connection.
Additionally, when we are grateful for the people in our lives, we are more likely to treat them with kindness and compassion.
Feel more satisfied with life
Finally, one of the biggest benefits of gratitude and practicing it daily is that it can help us to feel more satisfied with our lives.
By focusing on the things we are thankful for, we can cultivate a sense of contentment and appreciation for what we have.
When we are in a positive head space, this trickles down through every aspect of our lives.
This in turn will help in feeling like our lives are more fulfilled.

6 ways to practice gratitude
Now that I’ve covered some of the benefits of gratitude and practicing it daily, here are 6 ways you can incorporate it into your life to help you get started.
Keep a gratitude journal
This is the first step I started with on my gratitude journey.
I found that keeping a gratitude journal to write down a few things I’m thankful for really helped in shifting my mindset.
Start by setting aside a few minutes each day to write down things you are grateful for and reflecting on them.
This can help you focus on the positive aspects of your life and improve your overall mood.
Try writing out 3-5 each day, they can be big or small, as long as they make you feel thankful.
Here are some ideas you could include in your gratitude list:
- Your Children or Family
- Your Career
- The Friendships You Have
- Time for Yourself
- The Food on Your Table
- Having a Roof Over Your Head
- Getting Out Walks
- Being in Nature
- Getting Sleep or Rest
Express gratitude to others
Another way to practice gratitude daily is to take the time to thank the people in your life and who have had a positive impact on you.
This can be as simple as sending them a text, writing out a note, or having a conversation.
Not only will this foster more gratitude within yourself, it also has a positive impact on them.

Practice mindfulness
You could also use practicing mindfulness as a daily gratitude routine.
To do this, pay attention to the present moment and focus on the positive aspects of your life.
Take time to appreciate the small things, such as a beautiful sunset or a delicious meal.
Live in the moment more and remind yourself that life is good.

Volunteer
Helping others can be a great way to practice gratitude in our lives.
You could try volunteering at a local charity or community organisation.
This would make a positive impact on someone else’s life, as well as your own.
By volunteering you can spread positivity, kindness and understanding.
Use positive affirmations
Another way I really like to practice gratitude is using positive affirmations.
Much like my daily gratitude lists, I also write out 1-2 new affirmations in a different section of my journal.
This has really helped shift my mindset and trained it to believe that I am indeed worthy and deserving of life.
Use positive affirmations by repeating them to yourself each day.
For example:
“I am grateful for all the good things in my life” or “I am surrounded by love and positivity.”
Start and end your day with gratitude
I find that by starting and ending the day with gratitude goes a long way in helping me feel more optimistic about life.
Begin each day by thinking of three things you are grateful for, and end each day by reflecting on the positive moments that occurred.
This can help you cultivate a sense of gratitude throughout your day.
