Never Love A TV Show

Falling in love with a series is always a bit risky, isn’t it?

You get hooked, it becomes your comfort watch and then boom, it’s gone!

That’s why when shows are cancelled, it hits so hard.

They always seem to leave behind unfinished story lines and that frustrating feeling of needing more.

It’s not just entertainment at tomes is it? It’s something you genuinely connect with, atleast it is for me.

Below are my top 10 personal picks of amazing cancelled TV shows that I’m still not over.

And honestly, they really deserved so much better than being cancelled.

8 Amazing Cancelled TV Shows

Ratched

First up is Ratched, a series that I could honestly watch forever.

I absolutely loved the stylistic choices made and cinematography throughout. It was so beautifully shot and produced, and the acting was phenomenal.

Seasons: 1

Synopsis

This psychological thriller dives into the twisted origin story of Mildred Ratched, a nurse who reveals a much darker side while working in a psychiatric hospital.

Set in the 1940s, it blends suspense with amazing visuals and unsettling themes.

Why it was cancelled

While the series launched with strong interest, it struggled to maintain consistent viewership over time unfortunately.

That combined with Netflix’s tendency to prioritise newer content, it quietly disappeared from the spotlight like most of their stand out series.

Why I love it

What made this one of the standout cancelled TV shows for me is definitely its bold style.

The cinematography felt so cinematic, the performances were intense, and every episode pulled you deeper into its eerie little world.

It wasn’t just a show you watched, it was one you experienced and I highly appreciate that.

GLOW

Next up is GLOW, a show that really entertains and feels like an escape for a while.

I became obsessed from the first series and binged my way through it (have done a few times now) so I adore this show.

Seasons: 3

Synopsis

Set in the 1980s, this comedy drama follows a group of misfit women who come together to create a women’s wrestling show.

Along the way, they navigate friendships, identity, and the chaos of chasing something bigger and better.

Why it was cancelled

Despite being renewed for a final season, production delays during the pandemic made filming too complicated and expensive, leading to its cancellation.

Why I loved it

Among all the amazing cancelled TV shows, GLOW stood out for its heart to me.

It balanced humour with real emotional depth, and its characters felt incredibly authentic.

I didn’t just root for them, I connected with them. They felt like real people’s with a whole life that was intriguing to watch.

Hemlock Grave – One of my favourite Amazing Cancelled TV Shows!

Next is one of my absolute favourites when it comes to TV series, Hemlock Grove.

I can’t quite put my finger on why this show captured me the way it did, but boy am I glad!

I genuinely wish I could go back and experience it for the first time all over again.

Seasons: 3

Synopsis

Hemlock Grove follows two young outsiders as they investigate a series of brutal murders in a strange Pennsylvania town.

Dark secrets, twisted experiments, and supernatural creatures quickly turn the town into a terrifying place where nobody feels safe.

Why it was cancelled

Over time, the show received mixed reviews and struggled to keep audiences consistently engaged, which ultimately led to its end.

Even so, it carved out a loyal fanbase who to this day would love to see Roman and Peter back on their screens. Myself included!

Why I loved it

Its unpredictable storytelling and haunting atmosphere really made it a unique watch.

To this day I don’t think I’ve watched anything quite like it and I’ve not felt those same goosebumps since.

The unique style choices made were perfection and truly made it stand out! It was dark, had heavy themes at times and always felt mysterious.

The Midnight Club

The Midnight Club was one of my favourite binges of 2023 when I was stuck in bed, heavily pregnant and craving good TV.

Although it took me a while to get round to watching, once I did, I was HOOKED!

The acting was good, the plot very well done and the creepy atmosphere on point.

So I was GUTTED when I found out there wouldn’t be more and it officially entered the list of amazing cancelled TV shows.

Seasons: 1

Synopsis

The Midnight Club is about a group of terminally ill teenagers living in a mysterious hospice.

Every night, they gather to share terrifying stories, uncover dark secrets, and make a chilling pact that changes everything!

Why it was cancelled

Although it received really strong reviews, it didn’t hit the high viewership numbers needed to secure another season apparently.

Why I loved it

What made it stand out for me was its emotional depth and great cinematography.

It wasn’t just about the horror elements alltje time, it exploded life, loss, and connection.

It managed to be both haunting and heartfelt at the same time which was a nice mix.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Fate: The Winx Saga

Ok, so…

Not everyone will agree with me here, especially as the series has a list on ‘cons’, however, it was a world I was swept up on and desperately wanted them to hit back with season 3 with (hopefully) upgrades.

I’ll be honest, I can’t put my finger on why but I did really enjoy watching fairy magic on my screen. Especially Terra, she was my favourite.

Seasons: 2

Synopsis

In this live action, Fate: The Winx Saga follows a group of teenage fairies studying at the magical Alfea boarding school.

As they learn to control their powers, they uncover dangerous secrets, battle terrifying creatures, and navigate intense friendships and romance.

Why it was cancelled

Budget limitations and mixed reactions from fans of the original series contributed to its early ending.

Why I loved it

Despite its flaws, it really did build a strong following.

It gave us a darker, more mature twist to a nostalgic story from my childhood.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia of it all, but I just really loved it.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Unlike The Winx Saga, this is a series that I can tell you EXACTLY why I love it.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina gave me everything I needed and more, and damn was I hooked.

Seasons: 4

Synopsis

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina follows a half witch, half mortal teenager struggling to balance both worlds.

It’s Sabrina thr Teenage Witch, but darker.

As Sabrina embraces dark magic, she faces terrifying enemies, dangerous prophecies, and difficult choices that threaten everyone she loves.

Why it was cancelled:

As Netflix shifted its content strategy, the show began facing declining viewership and ultimately came to an end.

Why I loved it

This series captured me from the beginning. The gothic vibe and mature aesthetic really made it stand out for me.

I loved the original Sabrina The Teenage Witch, I was OBSESSED and owned every blooming one of her magazines.

So, having this “grown up” version of the show hit all the right spots, and the fact they done it so well was *chefs kiss*.

The cinematography, the storytelling, the characters, everything just hit the spot.

Granted that when season 4 hit, things felt a little off, but I was so wound up in this story I didn’t want to let it go.

The Society

This is a show I instantly became hooked on. I think I binged the whole series in a day and a half, and damn did I enjoy it.

This gives off major Lord of the Flies energy and worked so well. Seeing the different social groups play out in a town with no real law was very interesting.

Seasons: 1

Synopsis

The Society follows a group of teenagers who return home to find every adult in their town has vanished.

As panic spreads, they build their own society while uncovering dangerous secrets, power struggles, and growing distrust.

Watch The Society Trailer

Why it was cancelled

The pandemic made production even more expensive and complex than it already was, which led Netflix to cancel it despite its early success.

Why I loved it

The concept of The Society made this one of the most intriguing shows I’ve ever watch.

It combined mystery, drama, and social dynamics in a way that really kept me constantly guessing. And thats a good thing!

The acting was good, the plot well done and I could see this easily having 4 seasons had they invested in it.

Mindhunter – One of the most amazing cancelled TV shows

Last but by no means least on my list is Mindhunter.

This show captivated me from the beginning and damn could I watch it all day, every day!

Ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it was and IS an amazing show from beginning to end.

Seasons: 2

Synopsis

Mindhunter follows two FBI agents in the late 1970s as they dive into the minds of serial killers to understand what really drives them to commit such horrific crimes.

The pair interview real life killers and develop groundbreaking criminal profiling techniques, as well as diving deeper into a dark world.

Watch Mindhunter Trailer

Why it was cancelled

High production costs and the demanding nature of the show ultimately led to an indefinite pause rather than a formal continuation.

Why I loved it

It felt intelligent and grounded throughout, I loved that there wasn’t any crazy, crazy dramatisations.

The actors are great in their roles, seeing Jonathan Groff as a lead here was really impressive, his acting was fantastic.

But the big thing I loved in this show was its ability to grow tension in subtle ways from the lighting to the sounds.

All in all, definitely one of my favourite all time shows.

Final Thoughts on Amazing Cancelled TV Shows

Some TV shows come and go, but others stay with you long after the final episode, and these are mine.

While their stories may have ended far too soon, the impact they left behind hasn’t faded.

From gripping mysteries to unforgettable characters, these amazing cancelled TV shows proved just how easy it is to become completely invested in a series.

Honestly though, they all deserved at least one more season, right?
