Embracing Me: Fighting My Way Back to Happy

Embracing Me: Fighting My Way Back to Happy
Life doesn’t always hit you gently, does it?
It can feel like a full on storm that you never saw coming.
Over the past month, I’ve had moments where I felt myself slipping back into a dark place I promised I’d never go again.
But this time, I caught myself. I made changes, reached out, and learned what really helps me keep going.
Today, I want to share what’s been working for me in case it helps you too
Embracing Me: When Everything Hit at Once
The last month hit me hard.
Life threw everything at me all at once.
It felt too much like last year, when I went through a miscarriage, when life felt hopeless.
I couldn’t let myself get to that point again though, I had to make changes for my little bear, for the people I love, and for myself.
I decided I needed to change my daily routine and take back control.
Finding the Small Things That Help
When life gets tough, it’s easy to lose sight of anything good isn’t it?
You can feel like giving up entirely.
I didn’t want to do that this time round though.
So, I focused on the little things like watching Little Bear play, baking, reading, watching feel good films, and chatting with friends.
Some days, I stayed in bed crying.
Some days, I didn’t eat or even wash.
But I always found a way to get up and distract my mind from the dark thoughts.
Keeping busy helps me quiet that inner voice, and this time, I stopped myself from reaching the edge.
Reaching Out for Support
A few days after my miscarriage, I contacted SAMH. I needed to talk to someone who didn’t know me.
I struggle to fully open up with loved ones, even though I know they’d do anything to help me.
So speaking to someone outside my circle lifted a huge weight.
They gave me great advice, and I actually followed it.
One big thing they suggested was talking to S about what was going on in my head because he can’t read my mind (obviously, haha).
Once I shared how I felt and why it had hit me so hard, we grew closer. I stopped pushing him away, and that felt good.
Embracing Me: Why Self-Care Matters
I’ve learned that self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a must.
Taking time for yourself, even in small ways, makes it easier to handle whatever life throws at you.
Stepping away from social media helped me so much too.
I didn’t have to stress about stats, force conversations when I wasn’t feeling social, or keep up with constant notifications.
That digital detox cleared my head in a way I didn’t realise I needed.
Accepting Every Part of Me
This journey of embracing myself isn’t just about how I look on the outside though, it’s about loving the whole package.
I’m learning to accept my body, my face, my life, and yes, my mental health too.
It’s part of me, but it doesn’t get to run the show. I’m still here, still showing up, and still finding my way, and that’s something worth holding onto.
