What I miss about everyday life | My Isolation Experience

What I miss about everyday life | My Isolation Experience [Updated – June 2025]
I never expected isolation to feel this tough.
As someone who is an introvert and a total homebody, I love spending time alone.
Being around people tends to drain me mentally and leaves me feeling physically exhausted.
But honestly? This kind of isolation with the pandemic is way harder than I thought it would be.
Today I’m sharing how I’ve been feeling since the world began shutting down and lockdown have been put in place.
My Isolation Experience
At the beginning of quarantine, I truly believed I’d be fine.
I’m an introvert after all, a homebody through and through.
I’ve always preferred cosy nights in my room over going on nights out, and doing my own thing has always brought me comfort.
So, I figured isolation wouldn’t hit me as hard as it might others.
But here I am, wide awake at 4 a.m, really missing going to college.
Who even am I right now?
How did this become my reality?
There’s so much I miss about everyday life
If someone had said to me at the start of the year that I would miss the chaotic mornings, rushed wake ups, trying to get Little Bear out the door, reminding him for the millionth time to put his shoes on, juggling toast, makeup, and tea while hunting for his school bag, I would have laughed.
I genuinely never thought I’d long for that freezing walk to school, the mad dash to grab a parking space at college, the wait for Linda, or even the classroom drama and the group project chaos.
But here I am, craving all of it, every single bit.
Honestly, I didn’t expect just how much I would miss about everyday life.
The early mornings, the lunch chats, the banter, even the stress!
Turns out, those little things meant more to me than I could have ever realised.
And with this being my final year in college, knowing I won’t get the chance to experience that version of college again hits me hard.
So, I decided to sit down and list 25 things I miss about everyday life to help get it out my system.
Some might seem small, and sure, I didn’t do all of them every single day, but that’s the thing…
I had the choice to.
We all did.
And when this is finally over, I’ll never take them for granted again.

The truth is, there’s so much I miss about everyday life, more than I could’ve imagined.
And as this goes on, the uncertainty feels heavier.
Final Thoughts on What I Miss About Everyday Life
I don’t know when this will end, or what “normal” will look like when it does, and that scares me more than I like to admit.
The rising death toll, the constant fear for my gran’s health, and the anxiety of “What if it hits us?”, it’s a lot.
But that’s a story for another day.
For now, I just hope we find clarity soon.
It’s starting to feel like this could last the entire year, and maybe it will.
But when it’s finally over, I hope we all take a deep breath and truly appreciate the life we get to live, every ordinary, beautiful, moment of it.

Isolation is a very difficult time for a lot of us lovely and it's so hard not living the normal life! Hopefully things will return to normal sooner rather than later x

Thank you for sharing this. I think at the start we were all so focused on staying positive that it now feels “wrong” to be sad about all the things we’re being denied. Would I rather have my health? Yes. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be sad that nothing is normal! xx
It's crazy to think about how much of our everyday life has changed within the month. There's so much that we miss we didn't even realise we would miss! Love this blogpost. x
I'm to missing lots of things, I think for me it's going shopping for clothes and visiting my nephews 🙂

I miss being able to just pop to a shop on a whim to get one or two things. We used to go to pop to the shop on the way home each day to grab some bits, and now we limit our shopping to once a week. Although I guess it does mean we are being more organised!
Take care,
Em x
I miss seeing my friends and whining about college too! Watching movies and tv series on Netflix is nothing compared to getting the experience of watching that on the big screens in the Cinema halls. How we all wish the lockdown would end soon. Thank you for sharing this post!
I am too is deeply saddened. The reality of what's happening right now. At least now most of us got glimpse of what's really important. It can give us the idea of hope that there are such things to look forward to. Please stay positive!

You are so right… there are so many things we take took for granted! I miss just walking around without feeling I should be at home. You know what I mean …like when you go to the shops and you just browse. There is no time for browsing now – just essential shopping. Be safe.
I really miss basic things too although gradually getting used to wearing a mask. I miss seeing my parents and friends. I have seen my parents but unable to hug them which is so hard especially as really needed a hug recently. If a second wave comes which is looking likely sadly, this will last til 2021 which is daunting to say the least x
