Guest Post | 6 Healthy Social Distancing Outdoor Activities You Can Do Daily by Seriah Sargenton

Ahhhhh, It’s finally Spring!

That means it’s time to trade in our puffy winter clothes for some light and airy spring clothing.

Spring is the perfect season to start a workout routine or to start getting active through outdoor activities. However, we have to do so while following social distancing guidelines.

While the Coronavirus pandemic halted all of last year’s festivities, activities, and outdoor plans, it’s a new year.

By now, people have found fun and unique ways to stay active while following social distancing guidelines.

Finding unique ways to stay healthy and active is difficult during a pandemic, especially when you’re focused on social distancing and staying 6 feet apart from others.

Why Is Still Social Distancing Important?

The Coronavirus has not disappeared.

It’s still rampaging in many areas of Europe, the United States, and Africa.

With that said, it’s vital to either quarantine home when you’re not feeling well or to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others when outside.

No one is saying to stay home and do nothing.

With the weather getting nicer, I know how hard staying indoors can be in constant nice weather.

That’s why I am sharing these healthy and fun outdoor activities you can do while social distancing.

Running

We’ve all heard about the benefits of exercise.

It’s one of the best ways to practice physical self care.

Since the weather is getting warmer, it’s the perfect time to grab those colourful leggings, tank tops, and your favorite sneakers and go for a run.

Running can change your life.

There are many health benefits to running, such as lengthening your lifespan, improving mood, better sleep, losing weight, and enhancing immunity.

Biking/Skating

Spring is the perfect season for biking and skating.

Going on a ride is a healthy way to ensure that your body stays active during the pandemic.

Remember to bring a water bottle and some fruit to help you to stay energised, and always wear a helmet. Safety First!

Play Volleyball With Friends

When I think of socially distanced sports, I think of Volleyball. Volleyball is perfect for gathering with a small group of friends and social distancing.

It allows you to strengthen the upper body, arms, shoulders, thighs, abdominals, and lower legs.

All you need to get started is something that can act as a net and make sure there are at least 6 feet of space between you and that there is running room.

Garden

If you’re stuck at home, why not plant some flowers, fruits, or vegetables in the backyard?

Gardening is a great way to burn some calories and tend to your spiritual and emotional needs.

This activity can also help strengthen your relationship with the children and be a fun way to pass the time between meals.

Practice Yoga

Yoga is my favourite form of exercise.

It’s a form of low-intensity activity, which means that it doesn’t increase the heart rate and can be done for long periods.

The best part is that anyone can do yoga alone or with a friend, making it the perfect physical activity for social distancing alone or being intimate.

Finish Household Chores

Okay, if you’re someone who enjoys cleaning the dishes or always finds time to clean the bathroom, then this one is for you.

Household cleaning is a great way to stay fit when social distancing at home.

Ironically enough, studies have shown that cleaning your house and completing active chores such as sweeping and mopping comes with health benefits such as improved mood, better heart rate, weight loss, and increased longevity.

Why is it Important to Go Outside and Exercise?

Getting fresh air is an excellent way to boost your mood and energy levels.

Exercising is one of the best self-care practices because it affects your overall wellness: mentally, emotionally, and physically.

You don’t have to do anything crazy.

Take 30 minutes out of your day to walk around in the neighbourhood and take in the smell of fresh flowers nearby.

By the time you get home, you’ll feel refreshed and ready to tackle the day.

  1. A fantastic list of suggestions! I certainly agree with the running, it is something I’ve taken up over lockdown and it’s made a massive difference. Aside from helping me keep fit, it boosts my mood, and I always sleep better if I’ve been active during the day.

Plus with the lovely weather at the moment, its the perfect opportunity to work on a tan at the same time!
