August Roundup | Taking a look back at August

My August roundup may be coming a bit later this time round but with everything that’s been going on in my personal life, I’m surprised I was even able to write this.

life has been hectic lately. The end of August crept up and then BOOM, bad luck and more. My gran is currently sick at the moment so I’m taking care of her, little bear has been a handful, work has been bleh and more. But, that’s not the topic of today’s post so we will leave all that at the door.

August Roundup

August started off strong, mainly because July was such a hit and we managed to carry that through. We’ve been on a few camping trips, I got my second vaccination, we’ve had lovely weather again, went on walks and more.

Now, this post will have a slightly different layout from my last two roundup posts as I was silly and didn’t write my notes again and I’ve forgotten the dates of some activities. Yay fibro fog! Not.

So instead I’ll just be generally talking about what we got up to without some dates this time.

A night at the beach

At the beginning of August we had a lovely day/night out to Aberdour Beach. I say day/night because we didn’t set off until about 3ish in the afternoon and we had a good few hours at the beach and didn’t get home till about 9ish that night.

Little bear and I went for the day out with my friend L and her family which was nice. We’ve done a lot with them this summer and LB loved every minute of it as he’s very fond of L and her son.

I honestly had no idea where we were going that day, we hopped in the car as L’s husband drove and eventually we ended up at Aberdour beach. I was gutted I didn’t know because I put jeans and a good top of LB which was a bad choice haha. We did get to dip our feet in the water though and run around in the sand.

Whilst at the beach all the boys went on a walk while L and I watched the waves and talked away. It felt like a dream if I’m honest, like we were on holiday and nothing else in the world mattered but the fun we were having.

All in all it was a great time with fantastic company. We cooked food, laughed, ran around and enjoyed life for what it is.

Missy the Micra was turned into a mini camper

Well, I never thought I would be typing that out but here we are.

I was scrolling on TikTok when I saw a video of a woman converting her Fiat 500 into a mini camper and a light bulb went off in my head. I could do that! So I set off to work making a base to hold up mattresses, attaching Fairy lights to the interior of the car and more.

It looked amazing I must say and L did the same with her car, which is a lot bigger than mine so it was a breeze for her lol. Although it looked great, I hadn’t factored in the depth of the air beds, bad move! When it came to sleeping it was so uncomfortable being quite close to the roof.

It wasn’t all bad though

Apart from sleeping though, it worked great. We put the car boots facing each other and hung a massive tarpaulin between the boots and we were fully protected from the rain.

We decided to sleep at Loch Tummel and we got one of the best spots. Because the rain was heavy and it wasn’t warm, the Loch wasn’t too busy which was a bonus. Both the boys had a great time playing around the water, climbing trees and running around. It really goes to show that no matter the weather, kids love it.

As the boys played there were ducks swimming around and coming up onto the shore. They were so beautiful and had such gorgeous colours on their feathers plus we got to see their ducklings.

The baby ducks had me swooning because they were fluffy little things, fast too! It was nice just chilling out by the water and having fun, even if it was raining. It was nice to have a different experience with it this time.

The morning after though was the best because the views were stunning. We even had a rainbow appear right in front of us! I’ve never actually watched one appear before.

All in all it was an amazing time away.

It is perfect for before school starts. I’m glad we did it, it was a nice way to close the chapter of the summer holidays.

Little bear said this was the best summer holidays he’s ever had which was nice to hear. I’m glad that everything we were doing was making an impact on him.

Two days of bliss at Loch Tummel

Towards the end of August we got some more nice weather. It was hot, blue skies and the perfect weather for getting a weekend away. Although the kids were back at school, we didn’t want that to stop us from getting away.

L and I planned it all out, two nights away to Loch Tummel while the weather is nice. We would pick the kids up from school and head off. I honestly don’t know how to put into words how much this trip away was needed.

Although we had been going away all summer and the best camping trip was definitely the beach, this one comes close second. Having two nights away with the kids was perfect, we had zero responsibilities and could relax the whole time.

Off we go

Friday came around and it was time to get the car packed up. LB did have a dentist appointment that day at 1:20pm so once that was over, we would be heading off for a two day trip in the sun. I was buzzing the whole morning, counting down the hours so when it was time to go, I was strapped in and read.

We got up there about 4ish in the afternoon so I was worried we wouldn’t get a spot, thankfully we did. The spot was the one just before the spot we had when we used the cars to sleep.

There was plenty of space to get parked and off the road, get the two tents set up and the toilet plus we had a massive bit for the table and chairs. The space and layout was perfect for what we needed.

Once we got set up, we had the whole weekend to chill out.

It was a blissful two days

We had such a great time. The two boys were climbing trees again, we went swimming a few times, listened to good music, cooked good food and laughed. I can hand on heart say this was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time.

I came back feeling refreshed, my mind wasn’t all clogged up and the creativity started to flow back in again. Getting time away is so needed.

We also went on a few walks where I found a little blue bird egg just sitting there, also found some cool looking mushrooms and more. I loved being able to get some photos in as well.

Nature walks and nature walks and nature walks

As well as going on lots of trips before school started back, we also went on lot’s of nature walks. We have some lovely walks nearby so we love getting out in nature for a while. Little bear likes to go out on adventures so he can climb and explore.

The walks are great for those little activities to fill the rest of your time. It’s easy to do and we can be back home in an hour or so without going miles away.

Harry Potter Marathon

I wanted to mention our Harry Potter marathon because it was so fun. We decided to have a night in to chill for a while since we have been on the go so much.

I made up a bowl of goodies and little bear had a KFC while I had some rice, chips and curry sauce. We cuddled up in bed, put on Harry Potter and watched the whole set within a few days… we really took this marathon seriously lol.

August look back

All in all, August was such a great month. We had more days out, lots of walks and movie nights. Little bear also started primary 3 on the 16th which I was not ready for! I can’t believe my boy is up another class and looking more grown up every day.

I’m so thankful that the end of the summer holidays was a hit and little bear had a great time. We made lots of amazing memories and spent quality time with those closest to us.

So, did I tick off all my to do list tasks?

You can see the full August To Do list here – My August To Do List | 2021 Edition

  • Get everything ready for LB returning to School – yep, ticked that off and I’m heart broken at how fast he’s growing! My little baby is almost in 10 year old size in clothes and he’s 7! He’s such a tall boy, just like his dad.

  • Have more days out – Yep, we had lots of days out and it was perfect. We went camping a few times and had some nice relaxing days out on walks.

  • Get prepped for Grans birthday – yeah… I haven’t ticked this off. So much was going on that I didn’t have time to really think about what to get her.

  • View some houses – We put in to view one house and not even 15 minutes later we got a call saying unfortunately an offer was submitted and accepted already! I could have cried as it was the street over from where I am now and it had 4 bedroom. *cries internally*

  • Work on content – Oh my god no. No no no. I wish I was able to work on content more but so much was going in my personal life that I just couldn’t manage it.

  • Create some new products – I did create one new product for my Autumn range so that’s a win. I have however now created so many new products and I’m EXCITED!

  • Clear credit card balance – Check and check. Very glad it was paid off, less to worry about.
