Wreck This Journal Ideas – Full Review of Wreck This Journal [Updated for 2026]

Back in 2013, while I was pregnant, I stumbled upon a Tumblr post about a Wreck This Journal.

Instantly, I felt intrigued by the idea of creating art through destruction.

The journal seemed packed with amazing little tasks, and I knew I had to get one of my own!

It encourages creativity in so many unique ways, which I love and it’s super easy to interpret and understand, making it perfect for stress relief.

Like I’ve said, I first got my Wreck This Journal back in 2013, and throughout the years I’ve had plenty of fun getting creative and destructive with it.

It has been great for stress relief and when I feel liek I just need to get y emotions out.

The main factor that drew me to this journal was the prompt of being destructive.

I’m very much a perfectionist so this was a nice way to push boundaries and play with being less than perfect.

I highly recommend it to anyone looking to unleash their creativity! Simply let your creativity flow and do what feels natural.

“Think of Wreck This Journal as the anarchist’s Artist’s Way — the book for those who’ve always wanted to draw outside the lines but were afraid to do it.

Through a series of creatively and quirkily illustrated prompts, acclaimed artist Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in “destructive” acts. Poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, colouring outside the lines, and more – in order to experience the true creative process.

With Keri Smith’s unique sensibility, readers are introduced to a new way of art and journal making, discovering novel ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process.”

Hopefully these can give you some ideas and inspire you to try it out for yourself.

Here I am in 2025, almost 10 years later and I am STILL working on this journal.

When I say it has a special place in my heart, I mean it.

This journal has been a way for me to explore my feelings in a healthy way when my health has been at an all time low with my rare disease, a high risk pregnancy and so much more.

Throughout the years I turn to this journal to help me through dark periods because it’s a way for me to get destructive and creative all at the same time.

Not only do I use this journal, I also have two more Wreck This Journal’s that I use diffrent art styles for and I use some other Keri Smith books.

I’ll touch upon these later though so keep reading to find out more!

Let’s take a look at what my pages look like now and some of my other favourite pages.

If you’re looking for a fun way to boost creativity, then I highly recommend Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith.

This unique journal encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and free your artistic nature.

Each page offers exciting prompts that push the boundaries of traditional art.

You’ll find yourself tearing, painting, and scribbling, which is incredibly liberating!

It’s perfect for anyone wanting to explore self-expression without fear.

Plus, it makes a fantastic gift for friends who enjoy creative challenges!

So, grab a copy and unleash your inner artist today!

TLDR; Yes, I HIGHLY recommend the Wreck This Journal.

There are some other products I recommend as well that I also use or my son uses.

  4. This looks like something I'd need…. I often feel the need to be destructive yet artistic, but because I don't actually want to destroy anything I just muffle the feeling…

  5. I was given one of these when I was pregnant with Arthur as a bridesmaid to be present, the idea was that we wrecked it and brought it to the wedding. In the chaos of being a new mum, lack of sleep, everything else I totally forgot to finish it ( or even really start it after my initial attempt) but it was a great idea and i cant wait to find where I hid it, and now wreck it with the help of Arthur!

  10. I love this! You are so creative! I have a Wreck This Journal too, but mine is a complete mess. Instead of getting creative with it, I ended up doing everything in the literal sense. For example, the "Bring this book in the shower with you". I literally brought it into the shower and got it soaking wet. I love how you drew pretty pictures instead.

  11. This came out so beautiful!! The colors are EVERYTHING. You make me wanna pick up mine and try to do it again haha. Great post!!!
