The New Normal | Life in a Lockdown

The New Normal | Life in Lockdown [Updated – June 2025]
Life feels like it’s hit the pause button.
We’re stuck in this strange limbo where every day blurs into the next, and time just doesn’t feel real anymore.
It’s hard to believe we’ve only been at home for weeks because it honestly feels like years at this point.
The New Normal
Adjusting to The New Normal is taking way more time than I thought it would.
To be honest, I usually love being at home.
I’m a proud introvert, and my house is definitely my comfort zone.
But now that we’ve been told we can’t go out? Suddenly, I want to go out more than ever!!
It’s like being grounded as an adult.
My Son is Super Board
Meanwhile, Little Bear (My eldest son) is well and truly climbing the walls.
He shouts that he’s bored every half hour, and honestly, I’m there too buddy.
If I had a pound (dollar) for every time I heard “but why?” in a day, I’d be rich.
And like clockwork, at 8PM, we get a full on meltdown.
He moans, complains, and then totally kicks off.
I get it though, there have been moments during this isolation where I’ve wanted to throw my own tantrum, too.
The New Normal is challenging for all of us and
right now, we’re trying to help Little bear understand his feelings and express them in better ways.
Because let’s be real, sitting on the stairs screaming and kicking isn’t doing wonders for my nerves!
The School Routine
On a brighter note, I’m really proud of how he’s doing with his schoolwork.
I’m not going overboard with a strict six-hour school day, it’s just not realistic for us.
Home needs to be a safe, relaxed space.
Instead, I’ve created six worksheets a day using the curriculum the school provided.
I’ve even jumped onto Photoshop to make some fun and creative activities, so it doesn’t feel like the same old routine.
Each day, we cover maths and literacy, then he completes his Daily 10 on Glow, and we finish with a bit of reading from an assigned eBook.
He’s actually loving it and that’s such a relief!
Honestly, seeing him enjoy learning is half the battle.
Little Bear has this amazing little spark when it comes to learning, he loves picking up new words, and maths? He’s obsessed.
I’ve been doing my best to keep him challenged, but the boy is flying through the questions!
If he keeps this up, it’s going to make the days feel a whole lot smoother for both of us.
My Work and Routine
As for my own work, well… it’s been a different story.
Even though I’m home all day, by the time I’ve finished keeping Little Bear busy, tackled the housework, and kept everything running, I’m completely wiped out.
I have all this time in theory, yet I’m still knackered!
Lately, I’ve felt so drained and I can’t quite explain why.
And because of that, my blog has really taken a back seat.
I haven’t had the energy to write, take photos, edit, or even schedule posts.
All the little things that usually bring me joy just feel like too much.
I really hope this phase doesn’t last long.
Blogging usually helps me escape the negativity, and I’d love to find that spark again, but right now it’s hard to focus with so much uncertainty hanging in the air.
That’s the thing, none of us know how long this will last, how bad it might get, or who it could affect next.
I have this awful feeling there’s another wave coming, and I really hope I’m wrong. It’s not a great headspace to sit in, but those thoughts are tough to shake off.
Stay safe
I just want to say, I hope you’re all staying safe and looking after yourselves.
My heart truly goes out to everyone on the front lines right now. It’s frustrating to see people ignoring the guidelines when it’s so important to follow them.
Please, let’s do better. Let’s protect the NHS, protect each other, and take this seriously.
Stay home. Walk from your front door. Don’t drive to parks or beaches just because the sun’s out. Don’t gather in groups or stop for chats. Use your common sense and look out for one another.
The New Normal might be tough, but we’re tougher, and we’ll get through it if we all do our part.

I can absolutely sympathise with you both – I'm getting major cabin fever too! Although it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job with little Bear and keeping his learning fun and interesting. As much as I have always liked spending time in my home, I am someone who loves social interaction, so that side is a little difficult. Luckily, there is so much technology out there to help, which we've been making the most of!I feel exactly the same on the blog front! I'm working from home, and in theory have loads more time to get it done, but I'm just not getting to it, and when I do feel like I have some time, I have zero motivation to do anything… I hate to say it, but I have the exact same feeling as you, and I feel like I'm waiting for it. Hopefully, we're both wrong though.Stay safe and take care,Em xx
Cabin fever has well and truly kicked in for me! I can't wait to actually be able to venture out and about when all this is over! xLucy
It's so strange this time, esp. having to explain to children why they can't go out to play with their friends, your doing a great job :)Nic
