Self-love | 12 Easy Ways to Show Yourself Love

Self-love | 12 Easy Ways to Show Yourself Love
I’ve come to realise throughout the years that the most important love we can have in life is the love we have for ourselves. Showing ourselves some love can be difficult, especially when we aren’t in a good place.
As someone who struggles daily to love myself fully, I know what it’s like to push self-care or self-love to the back of your mind because sometimes you may not feel you deserve it.
But trust me, you do.
We are all at our own stages. Some of us are just taking the first step in this journey we call self-love, some of us may finally be at peace.
But no matter what stage you’re at, know that you ARE worthy, you ARE a magically, beautiful, unique human who is deserving of love, especially from yourself.
When I first started my self love journey I had no idea what it really meant to show ourselves love but as the years have gone past, I’ve come to understand different ways that we can be kind to ourselves that focus a little more on the self love aspect as compared to the self care side.
So, I thought I would share some ways in which you can show yourselves some love.
12 Easy Ways to Show Yourself Love
Take yourself on a date
Taking yourself on a date may sound daunting, but hear me out; Going on a solo date can be extremely beneficial. You’re doing something for you that you know you will enjoy.
At first this thought scared me but now I’ve gotten to a point where I regularly take myself on a coffee date. I’ll take a book and sit in the local café or I’ll wander up to the library to read for 15 minutes.
Although it’s not a long date, it’s me doing something that I like in my own company, learning to love who I am, all by myself.
A date doesn’t have to be going for a meal on your own, but it is a good idea. You can go for a cinema date, shopping date, dancing or anything else you can think of really.
Look in the mirror and find 1 thing you like about yourself
Each morning I have a routine where I will look in the mirror for a few minutes, focusing on something I like about myself, giving myself compliments instead of negatively focusing on the parts I don’t like.
I’ve found that since I’ve started doing this, I’ve had a much better experience looking in the mirror. I no longer only focus on the “bad” things, I now make sure I start my day on a positive note.
Have a solo spa weekend
If a spa experience sounds more like your thing, why not go for a solo spa weekend.
Take the time to chill out, use the hotel facilities, get some treatments and take advantage of room service. Sometimes doing a little thing like this for yourself can make all the difference.
Keep a self-love journal
I have a little journal that I keep in my bedside drawer. It’s used for writing down my thoughts whether they be negative or positive. I have a page for the criticisms I give myself.
I’ll write it down and leave it, it’s a way for me to rid my mind of those negative thoughts. Then on the flip side I have a section for compliments. Since having this journal I find it’s easier to let go of those niggling thoughts.
I would honestly recommend having one. It allows you to track your bad and good days, you’ll have a space to let go of the negative thoughts and a place to celebrate yourself all in one.
Get your nails done
If you’re like me and love getting your nails done because it makes you feel bad ass, then treating yourself to a new set or a manicure could be a well needed boost.
Go on a solo trip
If you’re up for it, take a solo trip. Travelling on your own can feel scary, I know it’s not something I am particularly inclined to do. But I know some people this works for and they say it’s the best thing they have ever done.
There’s a woman whom I chat with from time to time and in 2019 she went on 6 solo trips around Europe. She said it was the most empowering and thrilling thing she has ever done. So, if it works for you, do it!

Yoga
Yoga can be a great way to centre yourself and spend some time really focusing on your body.
It’s an activity that I find hard sometimes but when I have those good days that allow me to do it, I always feel better. I find yoga can be very calming and a great way to work on yourself, for yourself.
Write yourself a love letter
Always wanted an amazing love letter? Well, write one, to yourself! You deserve love and you deserve to feel loved so why not go ahead and write an amazing love letter.
Address it to yourself. Focus on what makes you unique, what makes you tick and all your own little quirks. Show yourself some of the love you give so freely to others.
Write out all your accomplishments
Sometime we can be so blinded by everyday life that we forget just how far we have come or what we’ve accomplished.
Write out all your accomplishments, put down everything you’ve achieved in your life or pick a time frame. But give yourself credit where it’s due and celebrate yourself.
Get your hair done
Getting my hair done can make me feel like a Million Dollars. It’s a great pick me up and those 45 minutes are just for me to do something for myself that makes me feel good.
Especially when I can never find the time or put it on the back burner for a while. Finally getting my hair done always works a treat.
So, if you’re like me or even if you’re not, give it a go and enjoy some you time.
Learn something new
Learning a new skill or taking up a new hobby may not seem like your typical way to show self-love.
But, it can be a great process for building yourself up and taking some time out to do something that’s just for you.
Or it could be a way to connect with other like minded people which also helps with building self confidence.
Ditch the negative comments
Stop being negative towards yourself. Yes, it’s easier said than done, but once you start to ditch the negative comments, you’ll find it easier to do.
Soon you’ll be less harsh on yourself which in turn can help boost your mood and make you feel better.
I know self-love and total acceptance won’t happen overnight, but challenge yourself to give a compliment any time you think something negative.
Make it a habit and before you know it, you’ll be doing it subconsciously.

These are great tips, and I especially love the one about a solo spa experience! As it happens, I have a voucher for one person that I got for my birthday, it had never really occurred to me to go alone, but I'm sure it would be lovely and relaxing!

The last one is probably the most important one I need to practice. I'm so terrible at constantly being negative towards myself, but I'm hoping to get better this year at being more kind to myself. Great post!
I've never had real anxieties or worries about going out to eat alone, but I hadn't done it until very recently. It was practically LIFE CHANGING!! I couldn't get over how much I enjoyed sitting there at my local Whole Foods, enjoying my mac n cheese & chicken & just people watching! Can't recommend it enough x
Solo trips are the best! I've been on quite a few solo trips in the last couple of years and I love it! It is daunting and a bit scary at times, but the confidence it gives you is unreal! I also love the idea of self love journal! x

This list was so lovely! I think most of us really do forget self-love and how it can really help your mental well-being. I'm so used to putting myself down that it takes reminders like this to make me go, "oh! I should be treating myself more nicely!" I love all your suggestions but I really love the write out all of your accomplishments one. That really hit home with me and seems like something I need to do to remind myself that I am worthy.
Thank you for this beautiful list and reminder to show ourselves a little bit of love and respect! We truly deserve it!

These are great tips. I need a solo spa day. Happy Thursday.
These are some great tips for self love. I always thought self care and self love to be the same but I now understand the slight difference. I try to do something in the day that I love. Its been a while but I also go solo shopping coz I love doing that. I try to color, apply a mask, take a nap, do my nails and read. You have some great suggestions like yoga, writing a love letter, maintaining a journal for negative and positive comments feel appealing. I have been procrastinating making a diary where I write down my accomplishments that will definitely make me feel proud of myself. 🙂 Thanks for sharing such a lovely post my friend. 🙂

Love this!! Sometimes we are just mean to ourselves aren’t we? Denying ourselves little things like a coffee out or a massage because it’s pricy, or some other odd reason. Self love is so important. Thanks for sharing.
So needed to read a post like this. A spa and coffee date sounds awesome! Thanks for this amazing post.
