Chaophraya Glasgow: Full Review of the Menu, Flavours and Experience [Updated for 2026]

A few weeks ago (in 2016), I was lucky enough to try the brand-new Chaophraya Glasgow menu.

From the moment I walked in, I felt wowed.

The décor is beautiful, with every little detail adding to the grand and inviting atmosphere.

Chaophraya knows how to make a first impression, and they don’t hold back.

First Impressions of Chaophraya Glasgow

The staff made me feel instantly welcome and the place was stunning.

Everyone was smiling, friendly, and happy to chat, which always makes such a difference when dining out.

I had brought along another blogger, and we were shown to our table upstairs.

As soon as we sat down, we were offered water and then treated to a surprise cocktail menu.

That’s when I knew the evening was going to be special.

Cocktails That Steal the Show

Chaophraya is famous for its cocktails, and they did not disappoint!!

I went for the Mango Passion.

It mixed mango vodka, coconut, lime, and vanilla into a drink that tasted like tropical perfection.

Every sip was refreshing, sweet, and a little zingy. It left me instantly wanting more.

I will say this cocktail sneaks up on you…

One minute you’re sipping, the next you’re standing up and feeling it hit, haha!

B and I couldn’t stop complimenting the cocktails all night.

They added so much fun to the whole dining experience and made the start of our evening unforgettable.

Starters: A Taste of Thailand

For my starter, I went with the Chicken Satay, or Satay Gai.

These bamboo skewers were grilled over charcoal and served with creamy peanut sauce and vegetable relish.

Honestly, the chicken was perfection.

Tender, juicy, and full of flavour, it felt like my taste buds had gone on holiday.

I’m not usually a sauce person, but Chaophraya converted me.

The peanut sauce added a kick without being spicy, and it brought the whole dish together beautifully.

It looked so stunning on the plate that I almost didn’t want to eat it.

Presentation is clearly a priority here.

B ordered the Mushroom Tom-Kha soup, made with shimeji and enoki mushrooms in a coconut broth.

She let me sneak a spoonful, and I was pleasantly surprised at how rich and aromatic it tasted.

Creamy, warming, and full of depth, it was a perfect Thai starter.

The Main Event: Chaophraya’s Sirloin Steak

Choosing a main course from the Chaophraya Glasgow menu was tough because everything sounded amazing.

I finally decided on the Chamber Aged Sirloin Steak.

The dish is served on a Himalayan rock salt block with a tangy chilli dip, stir-fried mushrooms, onions, and Bok Choy.

The menu says you “cook your own,” but don’t worry, it comes prepared for you.

My steak was cooked medium-rare, just how I love it.

The meat melted in my mouth and tasted incredible. Some places get steak wrong, but Chaophraya nailed it.

The Chilli Incident

Now, here’s where things went slightly wrong for me (and it was entirely my fault).

I spotted some red peppers on my plate, or at least I thought they were peppers.

So, I popped them all in my mouth at once, only to discover they were actually chilli peppers.

The fire that followed was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in my whole life!

My eyes watered, my mouth burned, and I downed my cocktail trying to put the flames out.

Let’s just say I learned my lesson about taking a closer look at what’s on the plate!

Despite that spicy surprise, the steak was easily one of the best I’ve ever had.

Sweet Endings: Dessert at Chaophraya

After my chilli incident, dessert couldn’t have come at a better time.

I went for the ice cream trio and chose Toasted Coconut, Salted Caramel, and Vanilla Pod.

The Salted Caramel won first place for me. It was creamy, indulgent, and left a refreshing finish to the meal.

Dessert at Chaophraya Thai restaurant in Glasgow is simple yet elegant, and it provided the perfect ending to an incredible night of food.

Atmosphere and Service

One thing that really stood out during my visit was the atmosphere.

Chaophraya strikes the balance between luxury dining and a relaxed vibe.

You can go for a romantic date night, a celebration, or even just a catch-up with friends, and it works for every occasion.

The service was just as impressive as the food. Staff checked in at the right times without hovering, and their knowledge of the menu made choosing much easier.

It’s clear that Chaophraya cares about creating a complete dining experience, not just serving good food.

Chaophraya Glasgow has relaunched with a fresh new menu, updated service, and a stylish new look.

The dishes take inspiration from regions across Thailand, including Chiang Mai and the Chaophraya River in Bangkok, blending tradition with a modern twist.

Guests are also encouraged to embrace Thai culture by dining “family style,” sharing dishes around the table for a true taste of Thailand.

From cocktails to dessert, the whole evening felt special.

The food was bold, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour.

Whether it’s date night, a birthday meal, or just a treat for yourself, this restaurant delivers every time.

I’d happily give the food, drinks, and service a glowing 5/5.

Chaophraya is more than just a restaurant.

It’s an experience that brings together flavours of Thailand, creative cocktails, and stunning interiors, all right in the heart of Glasgow.
