AD-PR Experience- Full Honest Review of The Smokin Fox Pub & Restaurant Glasgow [Updated for 2025]

There’s something special about revisiting an old favourite, isn’t there?

On Saturday 8th April 2017, I finally got to check out the newly revamped The Smokin Fox in Glasgow.

The space was once known as The Hope, which I reviewed years ago, so when I was invited back to see what had changed, there was no way I could say no!

First Impressions of The Smokin Fox

Walking into The Smokin Fox, I instantly noticed the transformation.

The once dim interior had burst into life with bold artwork, copper light fittings (which I now desperately want for my house), and a bright, inviting vibe.

The decor now feels more modern yet cosy, full of personality, charm and warmth.

One of my favourite features in The Hope was the mural on the dining area ceiling. I was nervous they might have painted over it, but thankfully it’s still there. It’s just been freshened up with stylish decal details that work surprisingly well.

New additions and Good atmosphere

The half wall addition in the dining area also makes the space feel bigger, which is wild because it actually divides the room.

Somehow it gives structure without shrinking the space which is good.

The whole atmosphere now has a lovely buzz about it that will appeal to every crowd, from after work diners to weekend catch ups.

Friendly Faces and Fantastic Service at The Smokin Fox

The service at The Smokin Fox deserves a mention.

From the moment we walked in to the second we left, every staff member was cheerful, warm, and attentive.

You can always tell when a team genuinely enjoys what they do, and this team radiated good energy.

I even recognised a few familiar faces from The Hope, which was such a nice surprise.

It added a little nostalgic touch to an otherwise brand new experience.

At no point did I need to wave anyone down or wait ages to order. The staff checked in just the right amount without being intrusive.

If I rated restaurants with gold stars, The Smokin Fox would get five for service alone.

The Smokin Fox Lunch Menu Highlights

Chickpea and Quinoa Falafel Flatbread

Roasted red pepper hummus, spiced cucumber yoghurt, gem lettuce

My gran went for the Chickpea and Quinoa Falafel Flatbread from the lunch menu.

She had a tough time choosing because there were plenty of veggie options, but this dish won her over in the end.

Her verdict? It was so delicious!

She loved the flavours and thought the roasted red pepper hummus and spiced cucumber yoghurt tied it all together beautifully.

She even said she’d order it again, which says it all.

The Smokin Fox Burger

Chargrilled Borders beef patty, smoked chilli ketchup, fried onions, hand cut chips

For my meal I decided to go for The Smokin Fox burger as I couldn’t resist comparing it to the one I tried years ago when I visited The Hope.

And I have to say, the Smokin Fox Burger did not disappoint!

The chargrilled borders beef patty was juicy and packed with so much flavour. I’m almost certain it’s handmade because it looked and tasted that fresh.

The smoked chilli ketchup also added a lovely kick, while the fried onions gave it a satisfying crunch.

They served the burger with hand cut chips that were huge! Proper hearty ones that fill you up fast.

In the end I had to leave a few because they were just  so generous, but that’s hardly a complaint.

For £11, it was absolutely worth every penny.

Sweet Endings at The Smokin Fox

Chocolate, Hazelnut and Coffee Parfait

For dessert my gran decided to go for the Chocolate, Hazelnut and Coffee Parfait.

She loved the pairing of raspberries with the rich, creamy parfait and said that the berries helped refresh her palate after the main course.

Her only wish was for a slightly stronger coffee flavour, but overall she gave it a big thumbs up.

Selection of Arran Ice Cream

For dessert I ordered the Selection of Arran Ice Cream, all vanilla, because I like to keep things classic.

The texture was so smooth, creamy, and exactly what I needed after such a delicious and rich meal.

Then came the surprise star of the show, the salted caramel sauce!

My gran ordered it with her dessert, and after one taste I instantly regretted not asking for it myself.

It was pure HEAVEN.

Next time, I’m definitely requesting extra sauce.

The Overall Experience

I’m thrilled I got the chance to revisit and see how The Smokin Fox has evolved.

The atmosphere is relaxed but lively, with music that sets the tone without overpowering the conversation.

It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay for another drink, and good news, the bar area is ideal for that!

Whether you’re out for lunch after a shopping trip or looking for a cosy dinner spot, The Smokin Fox really hits the mark.

The menu pricing feels fair for the quality and portions, and I appreciate that they offer a separate lunch menu with lighter options.

Next on my list? Their ham and cheese toastie! I can never say no to a good toastie.

Final Thoughts on The Smokin Fox in Glasgow

The Smokin Fox has managed to keep the heart of The Hope while creating a completely new identity.

It’s vibrant, welcoming, and delicious, everything you want in a modern Glasgow pub and restaurant.

I’ll definitely be back, and I’ll be bringing friends with me next time.

If you’re looking for a new spot in the city that delivers on food, vibe, and value, make The Smokin Fox your next stop on Waterloo Street.

You won’t be disappointed.
