4 Home DIY Trends You Have to Try Out

UpCycled Furniture
Right now upcycled or refurbished furniture is very popular. Although this has been going on for decades, it’s become a lot more mainstream and trendy. With shows such as Find it, Fix it, Flog it and Money for Nothing in the spotlight, it’s no wonder more and more people are taking on DIY projects like this.
Finding an old set of drawers and breathing some new life into them can make a world of difference. Plus, it’s also a great way to practice being more sustainable and eco friendly.
There are lots of hidden treasures out there in charity shops, but also keep an eye out on sites such as gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. You may also have a local free Facebook page where people will list items that they just want gone.
It’s a good idea to keep your eye on these places as a lot of great pieces will be listed that just need a bit of TLC. Sometimes a good lick of paint is all that’s needed, but you have full creative control when it comes to creating your vision.

Unique Plant Pots
With plants becoming increasingly popular as of the past few years, especially since the beginning of 2020, it’s no surprise that unique and quirky plant pots are in style.
Plants are everywhere at the moment and more and more people are beginning to fill their homes with them. So, it’s only natural that the plants we keep in our homes deserve their own bit of style.
Unique plant pots are a great way to add something new to your home. You can experiment with colour to really brighten a room up or you could go the route of Mason jars and glass planters.
Whatever your personal style is, getting creative with plant pots and turning everyday objects such as tea pots or welly boots into homes for your plants couldn’t be easier. This would be a great activity to keep kids busy as well.
My son and I had a go at making our own plant pots out of air dry clay for my gran on mother’s day, and she loves them. There really is no limit here and you choose how simple or intricate the project will be.

The UK’s Most Do It Yourself Cities
As home DIY is becoming increasingly more popular, it’s fascinating to find out The UK’s Most Do It Yourself Cities. With many making the cut in Brandon Hire Stations findings, I’m happy to see Glasgow and Edinburgh make the list.
It has been very intriguing to see which cites throughout the UK are the most DIY orientated, but I wasn’t surprised by London taking the top spot. Across social media I have seen many London based accounts sharing their top DIY home tips and actually follow a few myself.
I do find it fascinating to see which UK cities are DIY orientated and how Brandon Hire Station have worked their scoring system.

Wall Panelling
Wall panels, they are everywhere at the moment aren’t they? Anytime I’m scrolling through Instagram reels I see a new video showing a plain wall being turned into a stunning feature with wood strips. And I’m here for it.
Having that contrast of colour and texture really adds to a room and creates an impact. But, it’s such a simple and easy DIY job.
When it comes to creating a feature or some dimension within a room, consider taking on a wall panel DIY project because the results are worth it. I love the way it can alter a room’s look by simply adding wood strips to a wall and painting. It’s amazing how changing up this one feature of a room can bring charm, character and depth to it.
It may sound like a big home DIY project to take on, but once you’ve done a little research and watched a few tutorials, you’ll be giving it a go in no time. Do make sure you research first on what kind of look you’re going for as there are a lot of styles to choose from.
We added a simple wood border in our hall to break up the high ceiling and long walls, and let me tell you, the difference it has made is huge.
