June Roundup | Taking a look back at June

June Roundup | Taking a look back at June
Having been writing my to do list on the blog for some time now, I wanted to try another style of post that ties in with it. This lead me to the idea of a roundup post looking back at what I’ve been up to and if I’ve achieved my goals for the month. You can check out my June to do list here – My June To Do list | The 2021 Edition
So, let’s take a look at June and what we got up to.
The month started out with lots of hope and positivity. This was the month we had planned for a camping trip, days out and little bear finished up school for the summer holidays. What followed though was a whole lot of heartache and grief. Don’t get me wrong, there’s been a lot of positives but there’s been a shadow of hurt and pain following me around.
June 1st

On the 1st of June myself and a friend headed off to Edinburgh for the day with our cameras. It was an absolutely gorgeous day weather wise. The sun was shining, we had our cameras and we were ready to have a lovely day.

We got the train in around 11:20 in the morning meaning we had a full day ahead of us in Edinburgh. Once we got there we went on a walk around, the first stop was the castle. After we had taken lots of photos and another walk we ended up at Princes Gardens where we sat on the grass for about 45 minutes basking in the sun and talking away. It was lovely to do something a bit different. What followed was more walking around and finding beautiful places to take photos. One of the most beautiful bits was Dean Village, it was stunning.

After we had walked around for a good while, we decided to go grab some food at the picture house which was super nice inside. We laughed, had a few drinks and enjoyed our time away from the everyday mundane.
The whole day was lovely and we had a great time walking around taking photos. I would very much love to go again and visit some more scenic spots.
June 3rd

This is when the month started to take a bit of a turn for the worst. I ended up at the vets with Teddy who wasn’t doing so well. He was eating litter, not going to the toilet, nor was he eating. To say I was worried is an understatement.
The vets were lovely and helped us as much as they could thinking that it was constipation causing these symptoms. We got some medication for him and sent on our way hoping that he would be fine in a couple of days.
June 5th

This was a bitter sweet day. June 5th is the day that Teddy left this world and crossed over the rainbow bridge, but it was also my partners 30th birthday. We had big plans for a family BBQ in the sun, celebrating. It was meant to start as a good day and end the same but unfortunately, that wasn’t what life had in sore for us.
At 11:40 in the morning, Teddy was put to sleep after not eating for 24 hours, not moving at all from the rug in the living room and doing the toilet where he lay. At the vets they took another scan and found a mass in his stomach. At his age and at the stage he was at, there would be no way he would survive surgery. So, we had to make the hardest decision ever. Teddy was put to sleep and it left me absolutely heart-broken.
I didn’t feel like I had much time to grieve though because my partners birthday was still going ahead and by the time we were going to the vets people had already started to arrive. Little bear was so excited for his dads birthday so we couldn’t not go. So, I cried the whole way home and exiting the car I put on a fake smile and got through the day.

Don’t get me wrong, the party was great. The food was amazing thanks to my bother in law who prepared it and my sister in laws husband who cooked it all. There were plenty of cocktails to go round and we did have fun. I think I probably needed the distraction anyway as I would have climbed into bed and cried the day away otherwise.
I took a week for me and my grief
After the birthday party I decided that I had to take some time to sit with my feelings and grieve my beautiful boy. I won’t go into too much detail otherwise this post will be so long, longer than it already is. So, I’ll direct you to this tribute post I done for Teddy – In Loving Memory of Teddy, My Beautiful Fur Baby
June 11th – June 13th

For my partners birthday we went away for a weekend camping just the two of us. Because of everything that’s been going on in the world lately I didn’t want to book anywhere just in-case there was a lockdown. So I decided that a weekend away camping would be a great idea because we could pack up and go whenever we like.
We had such a nice time away. The weather was beautiful and having that time just us two was lovely. We are so lucky that we can go wild camping in Scotland because it’s amazing just finding that spot to pitch up and relax. We were lucky to get the exact same spot we did last year at Loch Tummel meaning we knew what to expect. Just sitting by the water having my morning coffee was bliss, I mean come on, look at that view! This photo was taken from the front of the tent.
The In-between bits
Although there has been a lot of sadness surrounding Teddy sadly leaving us, the month has actually been a good one. We’ve been on quite a few days out to local parks and to see friends, we’ve celebrated a few birthdays, we’ve had beautiful weather and overall, those moments of light have kept me going.
Don’t get me wrong, there have been days where I’ve found it hard to parent as little bear is figuring out his emotions and dealing with his grief as well, but we are getting through it together. We’ve also had hospital trips, accident’s, falling down the stairs and vaccine side effects, but we are still here, still standing.
Although I am so so glad I got the 1st dose of the vaccine, those side effects were something else! The pain was awful and the nausea had me feeling like I could sleep forever just to avoid it. They did only last around 3 and a bit days though so that’s the silver lining.
I’ve also had a lot of work done to my hair this month to get me to where I want to be colour wise and I cannot thank my hair stylist enough because she’s been super patient with me and helped me finally love my hair again.
So, did I tick off all my to do list tasks?
- Go camping – Smashed it! and it was so fun.
- Get my hair coloured – Also smashed this one and I LOVE my hair.
- Create a headstone for Teddy – Unfortunately our clay was a bust so I’ve ordered more to give it another go.
- Create some new sets of nails – Nailed this one as well (excuse the pun).
- Have a clear out – Well, I’ve been to the recycle centre 10 times this month so I would say so!
- Work-out at least 3 times a week – Unfortunately I have not stuck to this one, but I’m not angry at myself, I’ll simply do better next month.
- Create a photo album of Teddy – Yep! I ordered a bunch of photos and they are now in their own beautiful photo album.
And that’s my June Roundup. This has been a different kind of post for me but I’ve enjoyed looking back over those good moments. What have you been up to in June?

It sounds like there were some really lovely moments in June – I hope they were able to help you get through your grief a little easier 🙂 Also, the view you had when you went camping is stunning! xx

Thank you so much xx
Oh gosh, Im so sorry that you had to have the party after putting Teddy to sleep. That must have been tough but hopefully the distraction helped.
So sorry for your loss 🙁
Corinne x
Thank you x it was really tough, but I think the distraction was extremely helpful at the time x
I wouldn’t be able to pull what you did after saying goodbye to Teddy, so kudos to you for that. Hopefully, July will stay on the positive side, but I am sending you all my love nonetheless xx
Thank you x I honestly don’t know how I done it, I think a mix of adrenaline and knowing I had to think of my son and not ruin the day just propelled me through.
I’m so sorry to hear about Teddy, what a beautiful cat and I hope you’re doing ok. I know the pain of losing a pet (I’ve lost three cats) and it’s so hard and heartbreaking x

Thank you so much Lucy 💖 I’m so sorry to hear about your cats, it’s never easy. Sending love 💕
I’m so sorry about Teddy. I know exactly how you feel, losing my pet cats when I was younger was so hard and I can’t imagine life without my current cats. I’m glad you managed to go camping and have a nice time in Edinborough x
Thank you so much Caroline 💖
Great post! I’m so sorry about Teddy – you must be really strong to go the party straight afterwards – but I’m glad you had some nice moments like Edinburgh and camping. Thanks for sharing x
Thank you 💖 it was really hard, but I knew I had to power through.
I am so, so sorry to hear about Teddy! I cannot imagine how hard that must have been, given how sudden it all was. I love that you took time off for you and your grief and had a happy time camping, coloring your hair, and generally putting a check next to the rest of your to-do list.
Thank you for sharing! Love your tribute post too. 🙂
Thank you so much 💖 it was hard having to sY goodbye but I know that’s what was best for him.
Awww so sad to hear about your fur baby. It’s awful when pets pass they really are part of the family. Least he’s pain free now 🥰
Thank you 💕
Lovely photos! I need to do a post like this. It’s a wonderful idea to look back at every month and see what you’ve done and where you’ve been 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
