Over 70 Free Resources For Bloggers

Close up of iMac sitting on a white marble desk with a cat cup next to it on thelifeofaglasgowgirl.co.uk

When it comes to finding free resources for blogging it can be tough knowing where to go or even start. I remember the first time I heard of stock photos, I was amazed that this was even a thing. Being new to blogging or feeling like you have to improve upon your blogging skills then trying to find resources is only natural. I spent months researching resources for blogger and I think I have been able to come up with a pretty comprehensive list.

Now, I want you all to know right off the bat that I am no pro at this. I am only sharing resources that I have found, used and liked. I will also be linking to previous posts of mine which may go into more detail that I would in this blog post. Anyway, it's time to get into this, I will be breaking things up into categories to keep it tidy and allow you to find what you are looking for, the Directory is below.

Also just a little side note: I won't be linking directly to these sites to avoid broken links down the line.

Stock Photos

Stock photos can be extremely handy when it comes to blogging. These are essentially 'Free to use' Photos but I'll always advise that you do your research first before taking any photo from a stock photo website. There are sits out there that allow anyone to upload and don't check for proper credentials eg, having the rights to the photos and such because there have been instances out there of people using a photo from a stock website and have been sent a invoice for the use. You can read about one such case here - Photographer faces legal action after using a photo he downloaded from unsplash - So please do your research. There are also stock sites out there like shutter stock that charge and come with a little more security if you are willing to pay but today I am focusing on FREE resources for you all.

Please always pay attention to licensing, read about the website and their policies, do your research! I can't express that enough because if you don't you could end up in a sticky situation with no leg to stand on and that's the last thing that you want.

Photo Editing/Creating

Having apps or websites that you can go to that are free to use make creating awesome images so much easier. There are a few trusty faithfuls that I have and like to use when it comes to editing my photos. I currently use Lightroom but that's not free so didn't want to include it in the list but it does deserve a mention, it has made editing photos and transferring them between my phone and the Mac easy, plus I can use it anywhere, I can edit my photos in real time if needed. There are other places that I use for creating graphics or photos so here's my list of sites/apps you can use that will help you with creating awesome photos. I would also recommend using DaFont which is a site where you can download different fonts for free, it's a great place to go when you want to create a certain vibe including text.

SEO

Dealing with SEO can be a right pain in the neck can't it? I find it all a little daunting at times, having to get my site into tip top shape. I am definitely by no means an expert on SEO, in fact, I couldn't really explain most of it but I know it's important so I do what I can to try and help. I like to keep on top of broken links, I know they can bring your DA/Domain authority down so I like to keep on top of those. I also like to check in with my DA from time to time, just to monitor it and see if what I am doing is increasing it. I actually have a blog post dedicated to Increasing Your DA if you fancy the read.

Managing Social Accounts

Managing different types of social media accounts can feel a little daunting, I tend to get stressed when I have a list of things I've got to get done for social media but there are apps I have found that relieve some of that stress, making managing my Social media accounts easier. There is an app on my iPad that I use, I think it's only for ISO as I can't seem to get it for Android, but it's a handy little app that helps me keep track of who follows and unfollows, it's quite handy to be honest, it's called Social Guide, now although you can use it for free, the features are limited, you can use some and you can only connect one account at a time. You do get to use all the features for 7 days for free which is a good way to figure out if you want all the features or not, but I would recommend it.

Facebook Groups

Facebook is a great way to interact with other bloggers and find opportunities when it comes to PR's. I have found quite a few opportunities through facebook groups, sometimes people will put out calls looking for people to work with on a range of projects. I also this it's great for engagement, there are so many threads you can join in with, find new people to connect and grow with.

  2. This is such a helpful blog post! I absolutely love buffer for when I'm in work but still want to promote my blog. Trello is another one that I absolutely love as it's great on my laptop but I can also access the app on my phone. It really helps me stay on top of my blog schedule and what photos I need to take.

  11. Oooh! I always love reading about blogging resources. I find it easier than having to do the actual research myself. Oh man, don't get me started about blog comments - the ones where I am left questioning if the person read the post hurt the most @__@. I realized that stock pictures can make a huge difference. I need to look into the Twitter stuff! I find it hard automating tweets sometimes. Thanks for sharing all of this!

  15. I love finding free resources for blogging, especially as I’m aiming to get a domain in October, I definitely need all the help to make sure I’m doing all the right things. I’ve definitely read a few of your posts that you’ve mentioned, I remember some of them haha! I’ve never read of DaFont, but It sounds awesome to be able to download different fonts for free! I also haven’t herd of Lumyer, Vimage, InShot - just have to take some photos to up my photography game on my blog and use those apps :)

SEO! I know I 100% need to go back and fix old posts of mine with SEO in mind. I’d have to give your Increasing Your DA post a read to take some notes from when I get my domain :)

Going to save this post to my bookmarks!
