Well, 2025 delivered in a big way! And honestly, it feels like one of those rare movie years where every genre seems to bring something special to the table.

From clever mysteries and big budget masterpieces, to heartfelt stories and bold indie flicks, 2025 was a great year in the movie world.
There were so many great movies to choose from, so it’s been hard whittling this list down!
Anyway, enough of my waffling. Let’s just jump straight in and see my list of best movies from 2025, shall we?

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

We see master sleuth Benoit Blanc return to solve his most baffling case yet im Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Detective Blanc teams up with a young priest to investigate the curious death of a beloved monsignor in a small town church where nothing seems to add up.
The crime looks impossible at first glance and pulls them into a web of secrets, hidden motives and surprising twists!
As they sort through a wide cast of suspects connected to the church’s past and a long buried family legacy, you’re kept guessing right up to the final reveal.
The movie blends humor, mind games, and brilliant character interactions into one amazing mystery.
I found myself trying to solve the puzzle alongside the detective and honestly, I was a little stumped from the beginning on this one.
Its a fantastic good old ‘who done it’, and Daniel Craig plays Mr Blanc incredibly, as always.
Highly recommend, one of the best movies from 2025.

Zootropolis 2
Release date UK: November 28th 2025 | Genre: Animated Comedy | Age Rating: PG | Run time: 1h 48m
Next up is Zootropolis 2, and I honestly had so much fun watching this because the first is such a staple in our house.
We see Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde return to the force as their partnership faces its next big test.
A mysterious new arrival shakes up the city and pulls them into an unexpected case that spreads fear across Zootropolis.
To solve it, they venture into unfamiliar districts, go undercover, and confront hard truths that challenge how the city sees outsiders and each other.
While it stays playful and family friendly throughout, it also explores deeper themes about community and change which I quite liked.
And this might sound odd, but the themes felt very fitting for the state the world’s in right now.
Hopefully we’ll get our own dynamic due to save us. This would be funny if it weren’t so true.
Anyway, Zootropolis is definitely a must watch, especially if you enjoyed the first one. My son says it’s one of the best movies from 2025 for him, if not, THE BEST. (His words)

Good Fortune
Release date UK: October 17th 2025 | Genre: Comedy | Age Rating: 15 | Run time: 1h 39m
In Good Fortune we follow the story of an earnest, but clumsy guardian angel called Gabriel.
He decides to intervene in the life of Arj, a struggling gig worker who is barely scraping by while juggling odd jobs and sleeping in his car.
Convinced that showing Arj the other side of life will teach him how to truly appreciate what he has, Gabriel swaps Arj’s existence with that of Jeff, a wealthy but shallow venture capitalist.
As their bodies have literally changed places, both men confront unexpected challenges and revelations about happiness, work, and what really matters in life.
Meanwhile, Gabriel’s meddling begins to unravel which threatens his own status among the angels unless he can set things right
It was an enjoyable movie that gave some surprisingly thoughtful moments throughout which was a nice surprise.
And with Keanu at the helm, it’s hard not to find his portrayal of Gabriel endearing.
It’s definitely worth a watch, especially if you need something that promises a laugh.

Now You See Me Now You Don’t

The Now You See Me franchise returns with the 3rd movie, Now You See Me, Now You Don’t.
We see the Four Horsemen reunite for another bold and flashy heist, and thats exactly what we get!
This time, they join forces with a new generation of magicians who bring fresh skills and energy to the team.
Together, they take on a powerful diamond heiress tied to a dangerous global crime scheme.
Their mission sees them travel across the world, blending clever illusions with high stakes danger and constant twists.
I was on the edge of my seat at times!
The movie felt fun, energetic, and easy to enjoy from start to finish which made it sooo enjoyable. Definitely one of the best movies from 2025.
The cast shares great chemistry, and the new faces fit naturally alongside the originals which was good.
A great new addition to the franchise for sure, highly recommend watching it.

Avatar: Fire and Ash
Release date UK: December 19th 2025 | Genre: Action/Fantasy| Age Rating: 12A | Run time: 3h 17m
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the amazing journey of Jake Sully, Neytiri and their family on Pandora after the events of The Way of Water.
They’re still healing from the loss of their son when a fierce new Na’vi tribe called the Ash People emerge from volcanic lands and challenges everything the Sullys have built.
Led by the fiery and complex leader, Varang, the Ash People have rejected the spiritual ways of Eywa and bring a brutal and untamed new threat to Pandora’s delicate balance.
Jake and Neytiri have to face these dangers while protecting their children, navigating shifting alliances, and questioning what it means to fight for home and hope in a world on fire.
Honestly, returning to Pandora felt epic!
The visuals blew me away from the get go, but the emotional depth impressed me even more.
I can hand on heart say it was one of my favourites, if not my complete favourite from 2025.
The whole world James Cameron has built is so vast and full of jaw dropping visuals. Big props to everyone who worked on the movie, bravo!
I HIGHLY suggest watching this one, and the bigger the screen, the better.

Roofman
Release date UK: October 17th 2025 | Genre: Comedy/Drama | Age Rating: 15 | Run time: 2h 6m
Next up is Roofman, a movie based on an unbelievable TRUE store!
We see Channing Tatum play Jeffrey Manchester, a struggling Army veteran who turns to crime to support his family.
Jeff begins robbing McDonald’s by cutting into their roofs, which wearned him the nickname ‘Roofman’.
After a crime spree and prison time, he then escapes and hides inside a Toys “R” Us for months.
His double life becomes a tense game of cat and mouse as his past slowly closes in.
The blend of comedy, drama and character development felt really fresh and engaging in Roofman which made all the difference.
I didn’t expect too many heartfelt moments, but Roofman delivered! Tatum brought charisma and humanity to the roll, reminding us all that we’re human beings above all else.
Definitely an enjoyable watch and one of the best movies from 2025.

Frankenstein

This reimagining of Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro brings Mary Shelley’s classic to vivid life!
With a mix of gothic drama, deep emotion and stunning visuals, this is a MUST SEE.
Oscar Isaac stars as Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who pushes the boundaries of life and death.
He builds a living creature from assembled parts, hoping to conquer nature and achieve true greatness.
However, what follows is a powerful exploration of creation, consequence and the blurry line between genius and madness.
The creature, who is brilliantly played by Jacob Elordi, struggles with identity, rejection and longing for connection in a world that fears him.
Honestly, it’s been done so well.
I absolutely loved sitting watching this one, its intense and full of rich cinematography and stellar acting which is *chefs kiss*.
Frankenstein really is one of those movies that feels alive in every frame, and I couldn’t get enough.
A fantastic watch, definitely recommend it.

Bring Her Back

Bring Her Back follows the story of orphaned siblings, Andy and his younger sister Piper.
Both are placed in the care of a quiet, distant foster mother named Laura and at first her home in the woods feels safe, but Laura’s behaviour starts to get increasingly unsettling and strange.
Andy starts noticing odd rituals and disturbing patterns around the house, especially with another foster child who barely speaks also running about.
As one mystery deepens into another, the siblings find themselves trapped in a dark, supernatural situation rooted in grief, obsession and terrifying secrets!
The movie blends psychological horror, occult elements and a slow burn dread that keeps you on edge so perfectly.
I honestly loved watching Bring Her Back and found it to be a really strong horror overall and one of the best movies from 2025 for sure.
As a mega horror fan, it genuinely surprised me in all the best ways.
It manages to feel modern without relying on tired tropes, and the story brings something fresh and unique to the genre.
The tension builds naturally, the atmosphere sticks with you, and it stands out as a horror film that actually takes creative risks.
Genuinely, this was a fantastic horror and I highly suggest you give it a watch.

Bugonia

Bugonia follows the story of two conspiracy crazy young men, Teddy and Don.
They go on to kidnap Michelle Fuller, a powerful CEO of a major company.
Why? Well, they’re convinced she’s an alien plotting to destroy Earth and hold her in a strange, tense standoff.
The movie spends a lot of time in tight, unsettling spaces (which I adore) and plays with paranoia, belief and power in a ways that feels sharp and bizarre.
Bugonia blends sci-fi, thriller and black comedy into something that feels wildly original and unexpected.
As someone who loves weird, this movie has it in all the best ways! I was constantly surprising and boldly imagined, I genuinelyloved it.
The performances from Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are stellar, truly amazing to watch and made everything so believable.
It’s not a conventional movie, but it’s a wild ride that sticks with you long after the credits roll.
Give it a watch, it’s definitely one of the best movies from 2025.

One Battle After Another

I found this one bold, unpredictable and full of energy from start to finish.
The cast, led by Leonardo DiCaprio, brings a real spark to each moment, and the mix of humour and drama works in a way that really kept me hooked.
I love that the world feels vivid and alive, and the movie doesn’t shy away from big ideas while still delivering thrilling set pieces.
Highly recommend watching.
