There are many ways in The Sims 4 to make those Simoleons, from taking on the role of an astronaut to a fashion influencer!

But, sometimes its nice to play without having a job weighing your sim down, that’s where today’s suggestions come in.

I’m sharing my favourite ways to make a quick buck, or Simoleon if you will, to help inspire your next play session.

Oh, and there are some handy The Sims 4 Tips and Tricks scattered throughout to help aid you in makining that money.

In The Sims 4, I’ve found that painting is one of the fastest and easiest ways to make money.

By focusing on creating and selling paintings, your Sim can quickly build a steady income stream from their art.

It doesn’t cost a lot to get started, it’s straightforward to do and once your painting skill is up, you’ll have masterpieces in no time!

Start by investing in an easel, this will be how you create paintings to sell.

The cheapest one in game is the E.A.S.L Easel which is 350 Simoleons, so the only hurdle to begin with is making sure you have the money to buy it.

You’ll also need to make sure you have money to create the paintings, but more on that soon.

You will also need to make sure you have a space to set up the easel for your Sim to use.

Once you’re ready to begin, you can click on the easel to bring up a pie menu.

A graphic showing 6 screenshot from The Sims 4 Game depicting how to use the easel

The easel is fairly straightforward to use, simply click on it to bring its menu up, and from there you can choose whichever option you like.

As with everything, the more you use the easel to create paintings, the more your skill will increase, which also increases the value of the paintings.

Now, it does cost Simoleons to create a painting, so make sure you have enough funds to cover it.

Once the painting is done tou can sell it for Simoleons. Be aware though that you may not make any profit on the first few while your painting skill is low.

Once your skill increases, you can sell the paintings for bigger profits.

This is one of my favourite methods to use to make Simoleons because I find it works quite quick and I don’t have to move from my lot to do it.

I also find that after about 6/7 paintings I begin making a good profit, so what do I do to make money before I use painting?

Well, I sell collectables!

Read on to find out how.

If you have The Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack, then you’ll have access to a host of new holidays that make your game extra interesting.

One if those holidays is “New Skill Day” which lasts an entire sims day and enables your sims to build skills FAST.

I LOVE taking advantage of this special holiday because I can almost always get 2 to 3 skills up to about half way before the holiday ends.

This is perfect for getting your sims to learn skills that little bit faster.

Building your sims skills fast helps speed up the process of getting your gameplay to where you want it to go.

Waiting about for certain skills to build is tedious, so this method helps a lot in time saving.

I tend to use this combination if I have a creative sim I want to do a “Starving artist” storyline with.

I’ll use this combination when I have a sim who I want to have a big family.

It helps speed up everyday tasks like prepping meals and repairing items. Most of the time I’ll have the sim write books for a living when using this combination.

This is my go to when I have an active sim that I’m playing. I find building these skills helps my story progress quicker and goes more smoothly

As I mentioned above, I use this option when I need quick cash to be able to use painting as my main source of income.

I like to go around the world looking for things to dig, plants to harvest, logs to look in, beaches to comb, basically anything I can take thats in world and harvestable.

You can find various collectables like frogs, crystals, and fossils scattered throughout the games world’s, and all can be sold!

To start, make sure that your sims needs are full, this will ensure you get the maximum time out of collecting.

When you’re ready to get down to business, select a world you want to go to, this could be the one you’re already in or travelling somewhere new.

I personally recommend the likes of Oasis Springs, Willow Creek, Mt Komorebi and Forgotten Hollow. Oh, and I really like Brindleton Bay and Sulani as well!

A graphic showing three screenshot from The Sims 4 of a Sim digging for treasure, combing the beach for shells and looking in a log for Frogs.

When you get to the world, start searching the likes of parks, fishing spots and open areas for places you can dig, search or harvest.

In the photos you can see the different types of things to look for when collecting.

1. Image One shows a spot you can dig for treasure at.

2. Image Two shows a beach that you can beachcomb for shells on. You can do this on any sandy beach area, including home lots.

3. Image three shows you a log you can search for Frogs

4. Image four shows a rock you can dig for treasure.

5. Image five shows a plant that can be harvested.

6. Image six shows what it looks like when searching for insects. This can only be achieved if you have Outdoor Retreat Game Pack for The Sims 4.

For more information on collectables, check out Carl’s Sims : Carls-Sims/collections

Once you have collected the items, you can then go a head and sell them directly from your inventory.

But I personally like to use the Selling Table, stock it with all my finds and mark the price up by either 200% or 300%.

Then I’ll begin the sale and normally I make decent Simoleons that way.

Although not a requirement for collecting, giving your Sim the nature trait can be useful.

When you select any of the nature aspirations in CAS (Create a sim) then your Sim will get the collector bonus trait.

This trait comes in handy if you’re doing Rags to Riches or simply want to get by on selling your collectables.

It’s also a good trait to have if you want to complete The Sims 4 Collections.

The reason it’s a good idea to give your Sim a nature trait in order to gain the bonus one is because your sim will be a bit more likely to find rare items.

Finding rare items helps because they can be sold for a lot more Simoleons than regular rocks or plants.

Sometimes when I get bored of playing the painters scenario, I’ll turn to writing books.

Writing books in The Sims 4 is a pretty good way for your Sim to make Simoleons easily and unleash their inner creativity!
If you would like to go down a creative route then this would be a good choice of a “career” .

I also recommend purchasing a bookcase to help your skills along the way, but this is optional.

You also don’t have to invest in a computer straight away, you could use a community building that has computer access to begin with.

Once you have access to a computer, it’s time to get your sim working on their writing skill.

When their skill increases, so does the quality of the book and in tun makes you more Simoleons.

Choose the likes of mystery or sci-fi genres which tend to rake in more royalties when it comes to what your Sim writes.

Once published, books can provide a steady income stream as royalties are paid daily.

Have your Sim to write regularly, and soon, they’ll enjoy a lucrative career from the comfort of their virtual home, turning words into wealth effortlessly!

I highly suggest placing a community lot in each of your worlds.

Make sure it has access to fill all basic needs, some skill building activities, places to cook, computers and access to books.

This is perfect for having a community hub in your games and can aid in the likes of Rags to Riches and no cheat saves.

Another way to make money without getting a job in The Sims 4 is by creating music and licensing the songs!

Playing musical instruments in the game is a great way to boost your Sim’s income quickly, well, sort of!

You do have to reach certain skill levels before you can make money from songs, but, it can be lucrative if you play smart and  quickly get musical skills levelled up.

For this money making scheme you’re going to need an instrument that you can write music on.

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Violin

If you have the Get Famous Sims 4 pack, then you can also use the music production table. And if you have the Vampire Pack for Sims 4 you can use the Pipe Organ.

You can also use singing if you have the City Living Sims 4 Pack.

A screenshot of a Sim in sims 4 playing a piano with a skill leveled up notification

Once you have decided what instrument you want to play on, you can get to work!

Get your instrument and start building that skill.

Make sure all your sims needs are met and constantly grind at practicing. The higher your skill, the more interactions you’ll unlock to help get your skill up even more.

Then, when you have built your skill up to 8, you can start to write songs!

Once you have reached level 8 and composed atleast one original song, you can then go ahead and license it for Simoleons.

When your song is complete, head on over to your mailbox to license it.

Each song you licence will earn you daily royalties, providing a steady stream of simoleons.

This strategy is one of my favourite Sims 4 tips for making Simoleons quickly while exploring a musical storyline.

Building skills can take forever, huh?

I find that I get frustrated by how long certain tasks take, especially when it comes to building sims skills.

Well, if you’re like me you’ll appreciate these helpful little tips and tricks to boost the efficiency of your skill building!

Having an inspired moodlet in The Sims 4 can help boost how quickly a Sim develops their musical skills.

  • Painting
  • Writing
  • Cooking
  • Taking a thoughtful shower
  • Buying an inspiration potion from the rewards store (It costs 200 satisfaction points)

Graphic showing 3 screenshots of The Sims 4 game lot traits

Lot traits are great for helping skills develop faster!

The traits you pick depend on what sort of skills you want to build.

  • Great soil which helps gardening.
  • Home studio will help creative skills like painting and writing.
  • Great Acoustics which helps musical sims hone their skills.
  • Home which is really good for handiness, cooking, gardening and more.

My favourite lot trait though is the “Study Spot” one because it also slightly increases skill building by a small percentage. I highly recommend you put this lot trait on your sims homes.

The study spot lot trait comes with The Sims 4 Discover University expansion pack.

Getting the Bonsai tree will level up your gardening and flower arranging at the same time!

This only works if you have The Sims 4 Seasons expansion pack.

Screenshot from Sims 4 Gameplay of a female Sim about to jump into a dumpster from the eco friendly pack

If you have The Eco Lifestyle pack, then you can use the Dumpster Diving method to make a quick buck.

Dumpster diving is new way for your Sim to find the likes of household items such as chairs, beds, lamps etc.
You can also find money, recycling materials, food and more!

So, how do you make money from it?

First, you need to find a dumpster in The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle expansion pack world, Evergreen Harbour.

If you go to the community lot “The Quarry Building”, there is one there and then a few around the world as well.

You can place them on home lots too, and they work, but if you’re trying to make money, I would use ones around the world first to build up.

Once you’ve found a dumpster, it’s time to get diving!

Screenshot from The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle pack dumpster in game

Right click on the dumpster and it will bring up a pie menu with various different options.

The option you want to pick is “Dive for Deals”

From here your Sim will hop on in and rummage for some items.

I highly suggest you queue up actions to dumpster diver so that your Sim keeps on going back in until the dumpster is empty.

When you’ve finished with the dumpster, it’s time to check out your haul!

As its random what types of items you’ll find, they can either go to your household inventory which can be accessed through build mode, or normal inventory which is accessible during play.

So, always make sure to check both for items.

I highly suggest hitting all the dumpsters first before heading back to your home lot to lay out the items, it saves a lot of back and fourth.

Screenshot of items found in dumpster in athe Sims 4

When it’s time for you to sell, you can simply drag the item to the bottom left of the screen like you would if selling furniture you’ve placed during builds.

As you’ll have different items, they are all going to make you different amount of money.

Some don’t make any Simoleons at all like spoiled food of fire damaged items, they can easily be deleted though.

I like this method because it’s a good way to make some Simoleons when I don’t have much to start with.

Normally I’ll do a mix of selling harvestables and dumpster diving, and that soon racks the money up.

This is perfect if you’re doing a sustainable play, or want to live off the grid etc.

A graphic that shows a Sims 4 inspired home decor print that has a Plumbob and green text that reads "Sul Sul" - available to buy on jordanneleecreative.etsy.com

If you have The Eco-Lifestyle pack, then I highly suggest you place dumpsters on all your community lots in each world.

Placing dumpster in other worlds is a good move because when you get the pack, the only world that has them naturally occurring is Evergreen Harbour.

Even if you’re not planning on using them much yet, there may come a time you fancy the dumpster diving lifestyle.

If they are already in your worlds, you won’t have to travel too far all the time just to use a dumpster.
